Quote: Just you wait Stan. It's going to get dicey in the next couple of weeks. Thousands dying daily in the US. Is that enough for some hysterics, in your opinion?
Nice of you to buy into the hype. Thousands may die, no worse than yearly flu deaths. Total media hype. Do you know what propaganda is and its affect? This is propaganda. Its not that people aren't going to die, they will, its that the deaths aren't in relation to a real health emergency.

And thousands dying daily in the US? Not eve close to those numbers. Try hundreds. And by August this will be over.

You’re just a troll Stan. No one is stupid enough to not realize this is just the beginning....

Quote: How do you lock the vulnerable inside for weeks? Who is going to operate the old folks homes? How will my mom get her groceries if the grocery store is full of non-vulnerable people who are carriers? Doctors and nurses still have to go to work. What if they become vectors to the vulnerable? That's cool that you only have mild symptoms, but I just found out a friend of a friend died in their late 30s from COVID-19. He had no pre-existing conditions. How do you think the economy responds when everyone ends up knowing someone who dies from it? The idea that we can return to normal anytime soon is delusional.
yeah, I don’t know. But at some point (and it won’t be AFTER WE HAVE A VACCINE) we’ll have to get things moving again....... I’m open for suggestions.

Lots of good arguments to 'get everyone back to work'.... As a counter point there are lots of good arguments for the 'save lives' crowd.

All of them however are BASELESS without numbers.

I challenge any of you to put a dollar figure on each death. Only then can we move on into an actual debate.

eg. I am comfortable with 5000 deaths per 1% GDP drop. (Just numbers.... Havent put any thought into it)

The EPA for example placea the cost of life at about $9m. But that is for one solitary life, and importantly the first life. So its $9.5m for one life. Two lives all the way out to n lives has a differnet figure.

And no this is not amoral and heartless, we do it daily as individuals and as a society. We continually weigh up harm vs economic benefit but to a lesser extent. Some individuals have experienced this first hand when confronted with the cost of life saving surgery for grandma.

Until you (and govt) do this all arguments are in an absolute sence meaningless.

Quote: WE could literally stop this if the media would end the hysteria. If people were dying by the millions, this would be an issue? How many US deaths so far? And yes, Italy had a lot, but those were people average of 71 with multiple issues. God help us if we just have to deal with the flu next year.
key words you’re just glossing over: “so far”

This pandemic is no joke. I know a pilot now who has it. Even though they didn’t die, they were pretty young and healthy but needed hospitalization for days. And not for them to take his temperature and give him ibuprofen but to work on him and save his life. Still recovering. And all that just to be a statistic that gives people like you a false sense of security that it’s not that bad. Imagine the strain on the system and humanity if we just let it multiply.

Quote: The economy would be in the crapper from all of the disruption and loss of life.

So we get the worst of both worlds. Lots of death and a ruined economy. Well done, gents.

Yes, guess what happens when we ignore the lookout yelling “iceberg”, insist that it’s “fake news”, that the lookout is part of a crew plot to discredit the captain, and that it’s “under control.” We hit the iceberg. Now it’s all mitigation.

Guess what? The same leadership team that brought the iceberg hit is leading the mitigation! Think they’ll whiff it? Better hope not....

Or, let’s stay all over them and ensure that we power out as best we can using science, experts, and learning.

Well done, gents indeed. Let’s vote the responsible parties out in November...all of them.

The hysteria is in your post.

You need to go to New York and look around. Talk to some emergency room hospital staff. You’re delusional.

Of course, you could just wait until it arrives in your town ... but everyone following the guidelines will blunt it’s impact so it won’t be as bad for you.

To you and everyone like this:

Put a dollar figure on YOUR life. Start there. What are YOU worth?

Take a moment, really try. What do you make? Who is dependent on you? What value do YOU add to our shared existence?

Then move to your closest family members. What’s Grandma worth? Mom? Uncle Joe? Junior?

When you’ve done that, post it. BE the example. Let’s see YOUR analysis. That will give us a starting point. We can decide how far off you are. Who knows, you might be on to something.

Are YOU up for your own challenge? Put a value on YOUR life and those of YOUR loved ones, and put it here.

When you do that, we can have a conversation. We are waiting.
