Passengers Removing Masks ???
Quote: if he or she is a paying customer, I want their business. And then I want them to go home and tell their friends how safe and well cared for they were. So anything we can do to make them feel safe, we should be doing.

just because someone is on this forum doesn’t automatically make them a freeloader. Fractional and charter pilots buy a TON of last minute, top dollar fares. They are high value customers who deserve our appreciation, not ridicule.

This is spot on. I agree with others that the mask thing is a little overkill but my opinion is of little significance. We sometimes need to remind ourselves that we are in the business of customer service. If our customers feel more comfortable with this policy in place for the time being, so be it.

To answer the OP's question, as a commuter, from my experience, there has been well over a 99% compliance with the policy. I rarely see someone without a mask on throughout the duration of the flight outside of physically eating or drinking. YMMV.

My dad is 65 and flew for the first time last week, since Miss Rona came into our lives. He flew on Southwest and said everything went wonderfully and he felt very safe. He said people on board only took their masks off to eat or drink in the planes. He said passengers in the airport where very conscience of distancing and 90%+ had their masks on when in the airport. He said in was a lot safer than going to Home Depot.

just thought you might like a slant from someone in the vulnerable category.

Yes, you are correct, I might be better off just staying at home as you stated, but the reality of this situation is that this country has to move around and if it has to be inside an airliner , can you explain why I should not feel threatened by current situation with Covid 19 ? Are you one of the younger crowd with a cavalier attitude ? I am very interested in your response as it indicates to me that you are a not afraid to catch the Covid 19 and spread it around to the rest of us ............ Please explain yourself.
On another note, I do appreciate the rapid an coherent responses here that show me this particular airline is HAPPY to have a paying passenger onboard and wants them to be comfortable with the choice to fly ! Bravo !!!

I'm glad to hear positive reviews. Thanks! I have similar experiences, but I'm an employee so my reviews may be considered biased. I can assure you most of us are doing our best and try to be as safe and considerate as we can. Please share your experiences and reviews with family and friends, we need your business, and we will provide our best service.

You are still more likely to die in a car accident to the airport then catch the dreadful COVID just saying.

About masks it’s only a matter of time until someone on a flight actually fakes a condition supposedly caused by the mask and sues the airlines. One such example is a local person here where I live walked into a store where masks were required fogged up their glasses and tripped on some fixture and fell. Now they are suing the store headquarters for negligence for the safety of customers.

probably because even if you catch it and are not obese, have diabetes, or hypertension your chances of survival are %99.74. I'd say that's pretty good odds.
FWIW I travel a lot on SW across the country. Everyone starts out with masks on but by about 3 hrs of having that thing on your face about half the plane takes them off till the FAs pick up trash at top of decent. Then depending on what airport you're in people either do or do not wear masks walking around. I'd say on a whole country wide it's about %50 wear masks in the airport.
people are starting to get tired of the masks regardless of it makes others feel safe.
I follow the rules at work how they are written but I will put in for extended leave mostly to not have to deal with this BS for another yr at work.
if someone 3 grows in front of you farts and you smell it how effective are those masks?

Thanks for flying SWA! Yes, passengers are required to wear masks the whole flight except for medical reasons, small children or while eating or drinking. Crew are also required to wear them. We want your business and want you to feel safe and comfortable. Passengers are not allowed to just remove them during flight, and our flight attendants are very good about ensuring compliance.

not sure I agree with the statement of our FAs are really good about compliance. Of all the flights I've been on in the back only one FA kept telling people to have their mask on. Most sit in the back with their mask off the whole flight while they're not serving etc. I've even seen some that dont wear it at all. I'm assuming a medical reason for that.
Bottom line is everyone knows they dont work yet people dont want to be the one to hurt another's feelings so we have these dumb policies.
I'm super curious to see how people react to AA and UA no longer restricting seats July 1. I'm all.dor capping the plane now I finally dont have to squeeze in between two people when non revving.

I was going to say it depends on the mask you have. Key is in layers of your mask.
