My original post was in response to someone stating that a lot of people hired in their 20s over 30 years ago this was their first 121 job. I don’t know what you mean with accusations of differentiations?

I disagree with your assessment. I have quite a few friends who came up through the regionals and they all aspired to the majors because they wanted to be able to make >350k/year and have 18+ days off with good benefits. They didn't say oh I got used to 10 days off a month for sh$t pay so I'm cool with 13 days off for decent pay. Everyone has their eye on the prize. The only demographic that tend to be a bit weak kneed (not all of them) are the guys/gals who are retiring in the next 1-5 years. For whatever reason a lot of them are big time forward leaners and would be satisfied with minor improvements and a few more dollars.

People have the ability to look at our contract and then look at another carriers and see that ours sucks- regardless of what their career looked like before. I think you should have more faith in your future coworkers.

Most New hires will all have friends at other carriers to compare notes. Not to mention web boards like this.

Responding to everyone I was just stating a worry, I am not convinced it will happen. I hope we can unite and push for a unified pilot group and a much better contract. It’s just gotten real bad at the wholly owned’s the past couple years the vast majority of co workers seem they would be more than happy with the current QoL AA has. I know I will be but maybe I’ll learn more soon. That’s all I was saying.

That’s a deliberate feeling. AA would be successful in treating the WO like crap and have them happy (with status quo) when they get here. Keep your eye on the prize though. Things will be better for you when you get here and even better when we pattern bargain with DL/UAL. A United pilot group or at least United as DL/UAL is priority one.

What you pro ALPA folks seem to be missing is that there’s a fundamental difference between UAL/DAL and AA, and it’s significantly more important than the name of your union. DAL and UAL aren’t negotiating with Doug Parker, we are. I don’t care how strong your union is or how competent your negotiators are, you need some good faith negotiations coming back at you from across the table. If one party’s sole intent is to drag out negotiations forever only to be put on ice by some judge 5 years down the road, then no union on earth can secure an ILC.

Yes, if you ask an exTWA pilot, they will be proud they started at TWA. There has always been a certain class act about the airline and the pilots that flew their birds. (Not me saying that, but many other legacy pilots have said that.) Indeed, their slogan was an airline run by flyers. On any given day you could be paired with Jack Fry, the CEO, in the left seat or the owner, Howard Hughes. With all his eccentricities, Howard was a darn fine pilot.

It has been almost 20 years, most of the CA have retired. Most of the FO that got the staple to the bottom have become CA. If you ask, you can understand why they feel they got the shaft (hence the Mccaskill-Bond act prevents that from ever happening to someone in the future.) But, as a whole, they have said to let bygones be bygones, let’s move ahead and make the most of the time (and good money) they still have until retirement. They are just glad they get paid for doing something the enjoy. 😀
