Quote: I'm just one pilot, but if they want to restructure TOE on that fleet, I'll trade the current methodology for what they want (theater qual / okay to fly domestic prior to TOE). In exchange, I'll take 5:15 for training and vacation. Easy peasy.
Several comments about how TOE is worth ‘so much more than that’. Tell me how, if you are NB, 330, or 350 how this is worth so much more than that. My guess is, if put to MEMRAT, 5:15 for training/vacation would pass easily.

Maybe DALPA should just say - Sure we can address it in section 6, possibly giving the company some incentive not to drag this out for years.

Agreed. Address it in full section 6 like everything else. It’s a problem of their own creation that they want us to solve and pay for.

I’m not sure why so many are all on board to waive training requirements to help the company.

Who are these many people wanting to help the company? Leverage has no value if you don’t leverage it. The company has a need that we can fix in a way that we could gain far more than we lose. If they don’t want to pay what it’s worth to change TOE, they can pound sand.

Personally, I don’t think now is a good time to reengage fully in Section 6. But I’m happy to lock 5:15 in for 12 thousand of us who all have vacation and training right meow.

I can see leverage now with the increase of flying and need for new people. We should focus on QOL items and things like the 5:15, more vacation, more PS, PS for commuting, better reserve rules, better retirement, health insurance rules and pay raises accordingly with the recovery.

As Tunes mentioned above, the company proposal was rejected by the MEC 17-0. It doesn’t seem they want an even trade.

You should fill out the negotiations survey, like everyone else, when it comes out again for such a sweeping change.

Absolutely - in other words section 6. Its been two years without a raise or major QOL improvements - I am sure the company wouldn't mind stretching this to 5-6 years. Now is not the time for LOAs.

I don't necessarily disagree with you but I will offer the following question:

Would 12 thousand of us benefit more from leveraging the TOE issue into 5:15 or using it motivate the company to actually negotiate in good faith vice giving us the Heisman via the RLA as usual?

I don't know the answer but it sure would be nice to have the company actually interested in negotiating.

The cost savings to the company by making it a theater qual is not going to be all that great. Most pilots will end up getting the qual because they would love to fly the trips. The company gains some productivity by being able to use a pilot sooner after completing IOE. They lose some cash as greenslips would increase if most reserves lack the qual. In the end your not going to leverage a 5 million cost savings into 50 million in other improvements. We have tried that before with no success. The request by the company to allow a increase in the ALV on the MD88 for two months is a good example. Our demands just ended up screwing a lot of pilots in or scheduled for training at the time.
Once the company gets rid of the IOE backlog there would be no real savings at all. Given the rumblings that the glacial pace of vaccinations is going to kill Europe for the summer and the projected flying is going to be adjusted down they might not even care at this point.

wouldn’t the lack of flying to Europe make the matter even worse? There would be very little TOE opportunities and a lot of new pilots needing it.
