Quote: Soon-to-be newhire FO here. At my current airline, I bid reserve on purpose to get the schedules I want. I'm hoping for JFK at Delta. If I go for the most junior aircraft (probably lowest paying?), how long would you say it's taking right now to get a couple of weekends off each month?
just a couple months

Just to clarify, unless you are on the 767-400 or A330 (not available to new hires), Delta technically doesn't have a "JFK base." You will be covering all three NYC airports (LGA, JFK and EWR). The 757 used to do LGA but not sure right now, especially with terminal construction. As for the 220,.320 and 73N, the EWR flying ebbs and flows.

As for a few weekends off....in November it appears that new hires (mid-Oct 2021) on the 220 got a weekend or two off. And one got two weekends off to include Thanksgiving. That is some excellent initial PBS work complimented by a bit of luck.

Im a 31 August hire on NYC73N. I got every weekend in November off except Thanksgiving, and I think that’s only because coverage awards went really deep.

Oops…yes, all bases in NYC. Already used to doing that.

Great to know. Thanks. Signed up for a couple things in March and April that I’m hoping to attend.

If sitting LC reserve in the airport, I’ve heard two separate takes on using the SkyClub or Centurion Lounge. One Captain said it was acceptable to book a non-rev flight, use one of the lounges (assuming you have the credit card to do so) and then cancel the non-rev ticket. Another said Delta considers that stealing and not to do it. Thoughts?

I would be careful doing anything like that unless you could get into the Skyclub without a nonrev listing (don't know how it all works or if that's possible), especially on probation.

I got rid of my platinum Amex when I stopped commuting in 2019. The Centurion lounge wouldn’t let you in with a standby boarding pass. You needed an assigned seat. The SkyClub would let you in with a standby pass. I know of folks who did what you mention above, but I never did. I seem to remember reading something recently saying this was specifically not allowed. If you want to know the real policy either read the fine print of your particular card or ask the door guard in the club. I wouldn’t go off the advice of “One Captain”. I think there are only a few things you can get the boot for. Lying and stealing are two of those. So, on your go home day, with a PS boarding pass in your hand, probably okay. With a standby pass you have no intention of using, probably not okay.

Using the club after the flight in and before the flight home is fair game.

Creating a ghost listing for club access is coloring outside of the lines. The exact scenario you described was previously highlighted in NYC as not acceptable. Your safest approach would be using a Priority Pass lounge, not a Sky Club. While you're at it, you can save on crashpad costs by booking round trip transcons from/to work on flights with open Delta One seats. If you are qualified on an airplane with a crew bunk, you can JS and occupy the bunk during cruise. Stay tuned for more ideas on turning pennies into copper wire.

I've heard urban legend from FA's about junior NYC FA's who don't have a crash pad but only a day off who book a R/T non rev to Paris and back (or wherever it was wide open at the moment) so that they can nap in Delta one, eat and turn right around to return doing the same.

I commute in for SC (stay home for LC) but if I commute in, visit the club, and day I'm going home, visit the club, but have never went to airport just to use the club, they're good, but not that good!
