We can agree to disagree. I prefer the current system where where you don’t face disciplinary action every time you report 15 minutes late, need 13 hours on long call or 2 1/2 hours on short call. The extra hour in NY is not actually contractual. It was a reasonable gift from the company needed up there.

My only caution is they can (and do) no-opp trips assigned by YS or reserve assignment. Then you’re back on LC and might be hard-pressed to be in position for a subsequent assignment. This happened to me a lot at peak COVID. It’s not as likely now; once they have you assigned to a trip they’ll likely not mess with it. Unless they do.
Follow up: any recommended techniques for a NH commuter who can almost sit SC at home to max YS flying?

YS is tricky because you can only YS within RUO group and days of availability. And you can only get 6 SC. But you'll likely be flying the first half of the month if you're junior.

Sorry, more precise question (words mean things): looking for strategies to maximize actual flying while a NH commuting reserve. Call it a race to consolidation.

Put your reserve days on weekends and in blocks of 4.

That’s cave-man level bidding I can understand. Thanks.

NH is a bit of a stretch for almost able to sit short call. The first thing I would do is pray for a Boston base! There are different techniques depending on your category ect.. You can request stringing shortcalls together. You can watch open time and yellow high for commutable trips the next day. It really depends on what is in open time, where you sit with raw value ect..
I do think a Boston base will happen in the next two years.

I think that's why he's asking for ways to guarantee flying over short call.

Just asking for generic tactics. I live 3ish hours by car/2 hrs by air from my desired base and want to fly as much as I can early on. That’s all.

When you put NH I made the mistake of assuming you meant New Hampshire. I understand you meant New Hire. Yellow high everything you can going for longer trips. Shortcalls often result in no flying or picking up broken segments with minimal block time.
