Does UA cap your monthly credit amount? Are you able to pick up open time while on reserve and does it go on top of monthly guarantee?

I know Delta caps your credit but you can exceed that picking up trips from the trade board. And are able to aggressive pick up on reserve and that goes on top of your guarantee. Right?

Monthly credit is not capped. You are NOT allowed to pick up open time unless within the "aggressive pickup window" which is basically the morning before the trip. Anything flown goes to your line credit value and if that does not exceed guarantee than you get nothing "extra". I found it exceedingly difficult to make more than MPG while on reserve with the exception of a couple extra hours for picking up short calls.

Thank you, that’s good to know

Can you elaborate on the extra hours for short calls?

I believe:

At UAL you get 1hr credit above guarantee for unused short call.

At DAL you only get 1hr towards guarantee for the month for enduring an unused short call assignment. (that was a big improvement in last contract that was hopefully step 1 in getting what UAL has).

That being said, at DAL you can't get any airport standby assigned, so at least there's that.

Just FWIW, many commuters like FSB over SC. You fly in, sit for 4 hours and either go to work, or go home. 14 hours on SC is a bit long to sit in a recliner in the TV room.

As a local, I’m not a fan of field standby, but they reduce reassignments for lineholders and are preferable for some

Many days you won’t sit 14 hours of short call. A few hours in they will release you to 10 hours rest for another short call.

Well that sounds like SC for Delta. It's a 9hr window, but you can commute in during the first two hours, and often get released with two hours to go, so if your a commuter assigned SC at Delta, (depending on flt times) you can often just commute in, spend 5hrs at the airport using the gym, eat some dinner, watch a Netflix, and then commute home.

But all you get for your additional troubles is 1hr credit TOWARDS guarantee (unless you break guarantee). Would love to have that as 1hr credit over guarantee.

Just to clarify, your first two SCs/FSBs per month are free at UAL:

3-C-1-b-(1)-(a) When a Reserve has two (2) unused Short Call and/or Field Standby assignments in a Bid Period, his MPG shall increase by one (1) hour for each of the next three (3) unused Short Call or Field Standby assignments. A used Short Call assignment is one in which he is assigned to Field Standby without an intervening Off-Duty Period or is assigned (that is, not picked up) to a Trip scheduled to depart within thirteen (13) hours of the time the Trip assignment is made. A used Field Standby assignment is one in which he is given a Trip that is scheduled to depart prior to an intervening Off-Duty Period.

3-C-1-b-(1)-(b) When a Reserve has five (5) unused Short Call and/or Field Standby assignments in a Bid Period that were assigned to him (that is, not picked up), his MPG shall increase by one (1) hour for each subsequent unused Short Call or Field Standby assignment that is also assigned to him.
