Quote: This made me laugh. You shouldn't attack ACL though. He means well. I wish ALPA would put out a harsh public message like the other unions. We need public support to get this changed.

Public support is meaningless. They could care less if you go through security or not. In fact they probably prefer that you do. Your never going to get any real support from the public.
Quote: You really need to get up off your knees. You sound like LM at a birthday party. ALPA's response to this farce is limp at best.

Now this is a great response, no really.

It was in response to all the naysayers that said ALPA wasn't doing jack squat about any of this. It was to once again reiterate that yes, they are working behind the scenes for you.

What do want them to do, spew rhetoric to make you feel better? Then have this rhetoric thrown in the faces of all of those ppl that have influence on these decisions. If you look at the laundry list of ppl they met with many of them were campaigning for their seats over the last few weeks, so the fact that they got any face time what so ever show prove to you the kind of pull ALPA does in fact have on the Hill.

I know these facts are inconvenient to you argument.

finis,

Forgive me. But, where in the world does hockey's dreams of ALPA decertification lead you to bring the conversation to a "disgruntled NW Pilots" vs. "the silent majority at Delta" discussion? We haven't been in that place for at least a few pages, so you can keep your opinion.

Sailing,

Quote: Yep, the exact same thing happened after the Western merger. I doubt it will even get close to a vote.
Yep? Give it a rest. (Disgruntled) North v. (Silent Majority) South is dead. With this issue, there is no yep.
Quote: I want ALPA to do both. I'm tired of ALPA's politically correct bullsh!t statements. ALPA needs to put out simpler, clearer statements that represent the view of the pilots. Every single time I read an ALPA statement, I smile at the thought of them being de-certified.

You call it politically correct, I call this letter an actual matter of fact statement of what the heck they have been doing. They are in addressing their pilots concerns and telling you this is what we have been doing so that CREWPASS gets some actual transaction.

Now when this little Q and A comes out on the National site, everyone should take the time and go fill it out so that they have hard data from their members to back up their statements.

And yes, thanks for the kind words. I do mean well, and I have the best interest of this pilot group in every thought.
I think this thread has gotten out of control. Lots of insults being hurled back and forth. Time to shut it down.
Why not just go to the back of the security line? After a week of every flight being late see how quick crew pass is approved.

Haha. I (DAL-N) was introduced to the DPA website by a DAL-S captain in Atlanta. He was even handing out DPA stickers. This issue has nothing to do with DAL-S/DAL-N or the merger. DPA rumblings started due to some recent ALPA failings icluding (but not limited to):

1. Age 65 passing
2. ALPA cannot keep representing majors and regionals together. Huge conflict of interest. ALPA currently represents only 3 majors (DAL, UAL, FDX) and 28 regionals/others. Guess how that is going to play out.
3. 1500hr requirement issue. ALPA wants to bring it down (to around 500hrs) by siding with the Regional industry and RAA while all other pilot unions in the US are in favour of a hard 1500hr minimum to occupy a 121 cockpit.
4. Huge paycuts to save pensions / pensions dissapeared soon afterwards. Negotiated pay away for nothing.
5. Pay disparity between pilots and ALPA national office. We all took a 40% paycut but ALPA national salaries did not see any such hit. ALPA secretaries/admisnistrators/IT etc make more than regional captains or DAL widebody FOs.

etc..etc..

Again...this issue has absolutely nothing to do with NWA/DAL merger.
Quote: ALPA put out a response back on I believe the 22nd of Oct. It was a measured response while ALPA worked in DC with Congress, FAA and TSA to sort out this mess. When you are trying to talk to people and provide realistic solutions you don't first punch them in the face. So far all any other unions have done is vent a bunch of hot air. They have accomplished exactly nothing. ALPA has been working hard to effect a real change. They came up with Crew Pass and have been trying to get everyone onboard with the program. Crew Pass has passed all tests and TSA has finally agreed it is acceptable. The issue is funding. TSA wants Crewpass if it goes online to be utilized by all pilots and flight attendants. That is the only way it makes sense and keeps the cost to around 50 dollars a year per crewmember. ALPA contrary to some posts here can't foot the bill for every pilot and flight attendant in the country. Management at the airlines has to be convinced to pay for the program. That effort is ongoing as we speak. It is looking more like a possible reality in the near future. Lets hope they succeed. It would really help if the other unions would get onboard with real financial backing but so far they just give off hot air.

Ok Sailing;

All the other unions are venting hot air, ALPA quietly works behind the scenes at the highest level of government - Somehow, they both have the same effect and ALPA is last to respond to its constituents.

ALPA is no savior, its pathetic.
Quote: I don't know why any pilots are volunteering money to pay for CrewPass.

It will end up being in each airlines best interest to pay the CrewPass fee and write it off as an expense.

Pilots, in general have a pretty low BS tolerance level. As more and more pilots "opt-out" of the machine scan, the TSA pat down lines will get longer and longer and soon will start affecting the D-0 performance.

Like most things, airline managements react quicker to things that cost them lots of money or might cost them money (potential upcoming legislation), than things that are conveniences.

This issue is scaling exponentially due in large part to online media sites like The Drudge Report. It will reach critical mass sooner rather than later and will start costing the airlines money and what little good will is left from their paying customers.

It's one thing for a passenger to miss a flight because it took them forever to get through the security back log. It is quite another when entire flights or maybe every flight at a major airport is late because the crews are stuck in the backlog of security caused by crew AND passengers choosing to opt out. At that point the $50 per crewmember will look realllllyy cheap.
A-FREAKIN-MEN!!!

Why do you guys think APA, USAPA, & ALPA are telling us to opt out of the scanners and request a private screening room while being accompanied by another crewmember?

I personally will never go through a scanner, I will opt out every time. And if one feels disturbed by the new pat downs then one should call in sick.

The message will get sent quickly.

Don't forget how badly ALPA is missing the mark on the Flight and Duty times opportunity they are Pi*ssing away right now. I agree, the spinmeisters will try to say DPA is only the NWA guys with sour grapes. Simply not true. Lots of Delta South guys have been waiting for something like this to come along. In the end the general members will pick the president and other representatives, be it FNWA or FDAL.
