Quote: I have a CJO from 2 NOV and have not heard anything from them other than they have my signed CJO. The lack of information come from Atlas is disconcerting for sure.

This is normal, your most likely in the pool for a class.

Get used to it. I've been on hold for most of the last two hours trying to get back home because travel doesn't believe I'm where they just sent me yesterday.

That’s no surprise. Travel once booked me a ticket, ground transport, and hotel to Taranto, Italy…when I was actually supposed to go to Toronto, Canada to pick up a plane. They’re not the sharpest. In hindsight, I should’ve taken the flight to Italy, gone to the hotel, and then played dumb when I was supposed to fly out(of Toronto, Canada) the next day.

Man, that was a missed opportunity my friend. I am sure you capitalize on any errant keyboard mishaps now. Not for you HPIC, but these are the between the line opportunities that are gopher heads. Missed a few myself. Keep your sights zeroed cuz they aren’t always readily apparent. Some you win, some you lose or go with the flow if you will. We have our moments and some almost unbelievable stories, but I have learned many ways to skin the whatever without killing it. Crew talk at cruise is invaluable.

I’ve let them send me a couple times to places I knew wasn’t right. The way Atlas management treats the pilots I don’t do anybody else’s job nor do I tell them they’re screwing up their job. The Toronto/Taranto thing was mostly a case of not wanting to deal with the peak stupidity of airline travel internationally multiple legs during Covid. Not all that long ago I airlined to Dulles when I knew they were supposed to send me to Dallas. Unless I’m going home, I just get on the travel that’s booked and see what happens.

I don't think I've heard this expression before. Is a gopher head something you hammer that's short-lived, like a good thing? Is a gopher head good or bad?

Ever played ‘whack-a-mole’? He just means they were easy-yet-fleeting opportunities that were missed ala whacking a gopher head.

Cool. Thanks. I looked up gopher head on urban dictionary and came up with something completely different.

I have some curiosity regarding the ANC 747 base. As my family is leaving in South Korea right now, ANC 747 base seems to be a great option. Atlas in my circumstances is a truly the best destination career.

As such, I wish to ask you guys a opinion about the future prospects of ANC 747 base. In this thread many people have mentioned that about 100~ 140 hours paytime a month is feasible in ANC , will it be also possible in the future? or is it just a temporary thing that now coming to an end ?

If it is just a nature of the ANC operation that makes ~130 ish paytime possible in ANC, I will be happy to work and dedicate my entire career happily in Atlas.

With the article 33 bonanza about to wrap up and being a junior First officer I would say expect 64-80 hours a month without picking up and open time. With some seniority there are some 90-100 hour lines without article 33 but it would take a little while to hold those. That being said you would be hard pressed to find another American carrier that would make living in South Korea as easy as Atlas.
