Quote: Awesome rundown of the sked, tyvm. Couple of questions:
- did the oral take a full day?
- is there an oral guide or gouge out there on the questions which are fair game.
- how was the systems test? Tough or relatively straight forward after 2 weeks of CBTs?
- are there any instructors around to answer questions while you do the CBTs?
- was there much reading to do each night?

Thanks!
Also, per normal, the initial course is long. Worse yet, it feels twice as long going through it.

Keep the horse in front of the cart. Pace yourself and set up a plan. Group study on the porch during the academic portion provides much needed social interaction and a chance to meet folks down for recurrent, or layovers, and provide info as well as get to meet your new co-workers.

Heck maybe people that have helped gouge up the thread might swing by.

Welcome. And remember "Here at Atlas consistency is important. We make sure to fly no freight until it's late!"

They give nice cockpit panel picture/posters...go to Office Depot and do a 130-150% enlargement and post them on the walls...and start chair-flying. Does wonders for flows...

Two other ideas...
1. Take pictures of slides that you feel are important, vs taking massive amounts of notes.
2. Make voice recordings of the flows, limitations, and memory items, etc...comes in handy during chair flying.

Good luck.

Quote: Who administers Atlas' 401k? Any comments/opinions on the provided options? Thank you.
Fidelity.

There is the usual collection of mutual funds. However there is also a brokerage link option that gives you a full brokerage account within the 401k, so you can hold stocks, bonds, ETFs, almost any mutual fund and use conservative options strategies.

I went to office depot and got a stick of the tacky material which allows you to post pictures on the wall. Most of us modified our rooms by taking down room pictures and posting the cockpit panels on the wall for flow prep.

For lunch I recommend Cafe and Liquors (a Cuban food restaurant). Down the street about a mile from the training center. You pass it on the way from the hotel to the center.

There is a good Publix grocery store about 5 minutes away (by car).

Gouge: you will get more than you need. For those who feel naked without it when starting class, don't worry. Relax and it will find you. There will be more help than you need.

Good sandwiches and cuban fare to include Cuban coffee () at the Downstairs across the street (convenience store). Suvi is good Thai next door (also across the street).

They told us what the monthly pay was during training on the phone calls recently. HR told me $1,600. I seem to remember hearing something about a per diem as well. Is there a per diem while at the hotel, or is the $1,600 supposed to cover food and such?

Yup - per diem.

It's been almost 4 years since I did new hire training. Travel and expense to MIA was the responsibility of the new hire. I don't know if that has changed.

I chose to drive my car all the way from MN. I wanted wheels and freedom. I was reimbursed for mileage, but only for the return trip to my home. Frankly, I was in the minority maybe one or two other people did the same.

I wanted the ability to get away from the hotel. You can have a life during training and study, too.

As mentioned, doing the voice notes for the pre-flights and flows is amazing. In creating the voice notes speak slightly slower than the pace you will go at allowing yourself to get to the next item and identify what you are looking for before your voice catches up. Spending some time in the evenings early in training will pay off big later. Ask the schedulers when the fixed base trainer (paper tiger) isn't being used and get in there when you can with your sim partner.
Write your memory items and tougher limitations on the hotel mirror with dry erase pens and go over them when you are shaving (or putting on makeup) and getting ready in the am.

Have Fun!

Keep in mind per diem is paid out a month in arrears. In other words, your Feb per diem is paid at the end of March, so don't count on seeing it until you're almost complete with training.
