Quote: Both jets are good qualification systems. The reason the MD is preferable is that most are equipped with EFIS and FMCs. That prepares you for more modern jets down the road.
Curious if training material and company manuals are put together well or is one having to shuffle to find information?
How would you say profiles and SOPs are? Well thought out for the MD80?
Manuals and checklist that are well thought out can make a pilot's job easier when things go south.

Do you think that a future employer cares a whit if you've been flying an MD-80 or a 737 or an airbus? Do you think it would give you an advantage to have widebody experience vs. narrowbody?

Not a bit.

PIC 121 experience will benefit you, as well PIC turbine in general.

Nobody's going to care much what it was that you've flown.

Thank you! That is what I've been thinking as well. All my friends that are recently retired keep telling me to get a job flying 737 as that is what all the legacies fly and they want me to get a job with the legacies. My response to them is I don't think the legacies care much what "type" of airplane one flies as long as it is a jet with a two pilot crew, to a certain extent of course. Also, I want to go someplace where I want to be in case I never get a call from the legacies. As long as I like the job and it pays enough to provide a good living for me and my family, I'm ok with staying there more long term. I think there is a difference in mind set from the guys that are recently retiring vs the guys that still have 20+ yrs left to fly.

The forum audience here, wildly divergent backgrounds & expectations. Legacy automation, anytime anywhere charter, pallet-jack inclusive turns, 2nd gen fleets with significant differences, extreme climate, Central America, paper driven operations support, light experience pairings; may all combine to push the risk ante well above other ATP level, springboard alternatives. Not in a position to offer career advice. Only hopeful newbie job seekers are unflinchingly honest with themselves, wherever it is they decide to go for a chance to jump on.

You seem to be the one who has the scoop on the real operation. I’ve seen a few insights on health insurance provided by Everts. Could you shed some light on health insurance for employee + family? Not seen much at all about family dependents being covered under company provided insurance. This in itself would be a deterant for many in any job these days.
Greatly appreciate any insight on this topic.

There are two options for individuals/families. One is catastrophic the other is general. I'm not up on the costs since I use Tricare.

Ok. Do you happen to know provider?
Been doing some extensive research on Everts and overall ops. Are manual well written for ops? What are if any hang ups you would like to be fixed? Growth next year and beyond?
Thanks

How about performance for takeoff and landings. What resources are in place for performance planning?
How about dispatch. I’d assume they are in place, so do you receive a dispatch release with flight plan/fuel burn/weather/notams etc...

Of course, its a Part 121 operation. We have a full service Flight Control department that does all that. In addition, each pilot has a company issued iPad with the aircraft performance manuals installed.
