Can I ask what your GPA is?

Very interesting indeed. High GPA's are important, unless you work for a particular regional that agreed to concessions, then no college is required.

The vault letter is real, and there have been 9E pilots already hired without a degree. I know them by name.

Delta does not require a specific GPA, they are simply interviewing the candidates with the highest numbers first.

I wasnt furloughed and my situation pales in comparison, but because I waited one month (2 classes) i haven't been able to hold west of the Mississippi since i got here in '08. Be prepared for the interview but take the first class date.

Or apparently someone that doesn't have one at all. I've been here 14 years, I knew that if I wanted to be at Delta Air Lines then I needed a degree. If they don't have one then they obviously didn't want to be here. The best pilots that I've flown with bar none were at a cargo airline that I flew for on furlough. When I got back to Delta and we started hiring I engaged the hiring department about exceptions to the 4 year degree requirement for some of these guys. The answer was absolutely not. So much for one standard.

There are probably quite a few pilots without a college degree that want to fly for DAL, but at the time they came up in this industry it wasn't emphasized. Nobody in my age group (early to mid 30's) and younger has entered this industry without this knowledge, and you'll likely see that the overwhelming majority of us have degrees whether we intended to use them or not, because we knew it was required. As for the older crowd (40+) they had different guidance and it wasn't necessarily expected of them to have a college degree. So I don't blame them, nor do I think it shows a lack of drive or dedication. Remember, the next step is a masters degree. We laugh about it now, but one day you'll need a masters, who knows.

I have to disagree, then I'm done with this subject. I'm right smack in the middle of this demographic at 45 years old. I got my degree at night school in the Army, not because I thought I would actually use it, but because it was a requirement for so many jobs not just Delta. I probably wouldn't even get a call for an interview in today's interviewing environment. Let's see degree completed in 11 years, liberal arts degree, 3.4 GPA.

My point is that DAL has 8,000 applications and I would say that half of them all look the same. So if your not in the military, a checkairman, have some sort of connection or a minority then the only thing that DAL can look at to set you apart from the crowd is your GPA. I do know for a fact that the lowest GPA they will hire is a 2.5 but since they are only interviewing the top 10% right now they can choose all the apps that are 3.6 or higher.

So much is wrong with this statement. Unless you're on the hiring board, I don't think you know for a fact what GPA the airline is looking for. Also, we are at the beginning of the hiring wave, and several people who don't match your stated criteria of military, etc. have been hired. Your post sounds like sour grapes.

The EtD is proof that management cares solely about costs, the only reason they hire the best is because they cost less.

The university I went to has had tuition jump over 800% since I graduated. There is no way I would recommend a pilot go to college at these prices. The fact that Delta or any airline requires a degree on top of the flight training expense is ridiculous.
