Quote: As usual, Payne is correct. Silo system only.

Now just wait until after the vote and a group of our pilots that demands the more traditional setup, of course for THIER own benefit. Hope I'm wrong. Really hope I'm wrong.
Wouldn't it be something if it was the junior FOs demanding a more traditional setup.

By SILO I'm assuming you mean block representation? The ALPA Constitution & By Laws provide for that, and it has advantages for largely single domicile airlines.

As to the arguement that ALPA favors senior pilots I say BS. My expereince at TWA, NWA, and now DAL is that junior pilots are more than fairly represented, and in fact PWA negotiated items have on occasion disproportionately benefitted junior pilots - and I'm fairly junior.

We do work in a seniority based world, and senior, as well as senior in category always pays more and allows for seniority accrued benefits such as vacation bidding and schedules. No PWA or union is going to change that, and if you are looking for a system that does maybe airline flying should not be your profession.

The problem starts with Capt/FO or block representation comes back to the pilots, you have to stay involved and communicate....we tend to get lazy and not question or communicate with our reps; when that happens and with no input to the rep....the assumption is that what the rep is doing is ok. Democracy is hard work.

I would agree with Fly4Hire, I have seen the junior pilots fairly represented, probably because they are more engaged.

Seniority line pilots, even without adequate input, tend to act far more in pilot interests than management does. I agree the quality and quantity of participation is a large factor.

Ironically those who ***** about ALPA the most usually participate the least.

Thanks for the info, maybe a touch condescending at the end.
Silo system, what we have now = a seniority block system.
Most guys here have been in ALPA or some type of union before.
As a jr guy, you do worry when you have a senior bus captain say on a call-in with our ELT that the 190 is overpaid.
I think his opinion is in the minority but we must set this up to be as fair as possible.
I totally agree it's up to the pilots and how much we engage.
Vote yes and stay engaged....it's our union.

Bingo. Just like everything else in life, there are viewers and doers.

Not my intention to be condescending - I've heard the woe is the junior pilot plight for years - it was aimed solely at those somehow expect a union to invert the seniority system in their favor.

HAHA, in all the history of airline unions, it has been the junior pilots who have been over represented. Now I've heard everything.

I'm with ya man. Some people just have an answer for everything... If we don't have equal representation, our 'union' will not work. Period.

No one said over represented, just fairly, and occasionally more. Keep on hating on unions. Management is you friend.
