FWIW,
that guy was a junior pilot that created most of his program while
furloughed (post-9/11) and subsequently resigned from UAL when recalled in 2007.
He was never a management pilot, or in charge of PBS, or in an ALPA leadership position, or an "insider" of any sort. Big difference, IMHO.

Before you use that specific example, I think you might want to
fact check the resume of Kit Darby. There might be a lesson for folks lest they fly too close to the sun and also become "retired."
Not saying that there is not a time and place for outside consulting...but it can be a fine line to walk unless one's ducks are in a row, IMHO.
