Quote: Why so many cancellations today? Due to weather or...?
31L&R operations due to the crosswind on the North/South runways backs up traffic considerably = lots of canceled feeder flights (not just for Mesa).

How many pilots are on government assistance (food stamps) at Mesa? A buddy of mine was discussing his situation with me and said he was going to apply. He's ashamed of speaking to company resources and can barely afford to live in Dallas. He can move to a less desirable location but he would then be putting his safety at risk. He advised me to look at it also but I haven't put much thought into it. He's also got student loans totaling over 100k. Any advice?

Yeah, Mesa should pay more, but this is always infuriating. If you're an airline pilot, then you have the intelligence and ability to find and hold a job that pays the bills, whether that be flying or not. Becoming a new FO at Mesa is a choice, especially when there are many pilot jobs out there that pay much more than Mesa. Your friend seems to have selected themselves for victimhood, and sounds like a financial dummy for coming here with $100k in loans in this market. There are people who come to work here without families, debt or other obligations who can afford to live on first year pay. Those who don't belong to that group, but still choose to destroy their financial lives and unnecessarily eat my tax dollars don't deserve help or sympathy.

My advice to your friend: Get a fuarking job.

He made the choice on Mesa based on the DFW base. He said he thought about Envoy but with his age 30 it would be a slim to none shot that he would get DFW and didn't want to be stuck in Laguardia or Chicago. He understood that having Laguardia would eventually lead him back to Dallas but decided on Mesa because of base which would keep him close to family and friends. I myself have cut back on unnecessary wants such as cable tv, internet, new cloths and even chose to move into a more undesirable area (The Hood) to place my own safety at risk. But I'm fine with it for now I just be sure to take my uniform jacket off before I get outta the car. I don't need people thinking I make more than I actually do. I keep an old shirt in the car so I blend in with some of the people in the area. My situation is slightly different. No kids, wife, student loans so I'm able to maintain but it will only take one life event to place me in the red. We are positive guys that do our job and we don't bash others who fly the same plane for more than twice the amount since we both have college friends just about everywhere. Do they try to get us to think about leaving and split a referral bonus? Yep all the time.

How would you bash someone who flies the same equipment as you do for twice the money? If you chose to fly for Mesa, you are part of the problem.

EL recall
I don't think people understand why half of the pilot group is upset with EL, and feels there is a need to have a recall.

1. Sent out an unprofessional letter that's been called unprofessional by hiring managers at other airlines.

2. Called out Spirit, etc as a second tier job that you can settle for. I'm sorry but what? That's a hell of a lot better than Mesa and trying to mold an image that it's either legacy or nothing is asinine. How many Mesa lifers would have wished they could have gone to spirit years ago, while saying oh eventually I'll get to a legacy. I'm sorry but in 3 years you'll make over 6 figures with great work rules. That's not second tier.

3. EL is supposed to rep the pilots, not send emails with his fellow union workers names on it without their permission, what kind of professional move is that?

4. Does EL really have the pilots group interest at heart? Or his own? Was he at all the picketing events? As someone stated before, pounding the table sounds great but we have to abide by the RLA, it sucks but that's the reality of it. The CA rep is supposed to rep the pilots, but here is an interesting tidbit. Does he? I nominated someone else to be the CA rep but somehow Eric ran unopposed... I find that curious. I then ask who counted the nomination ballots, only to find out it was none other than our lovely CA rep. So, yeah. I'd prefer someone with the true interest of the pilot group at heart. Not someone who has proven to be self serving.

It's called Playa Hating, it's possible to bash someone who has what you don't.

I learned this morning that because of the DFW LEC DEBACLE, Spirit will NOT be hiring anyone from MESA...

What a damn shame...

Quote: The LEC who wrote this is a great guy, ...He's the Donald Trump of reps, no filters. All the others came across as politicians, affraid to be non pc.

Donald Trump of Negotiators, too, apparently.
He just cost a bunch of YV pilots slots at other airlines....
