Quote: Sadly your question is kind of like asking what the price of bitcoin will be in 2018. Outside the migration of MD88 flying the answer is generally however NYC.
I know this kind of thing changes often, but there has to be people out there on each airplane that have a rough idea how long it will take them to hold a line as of today.

Ken,

Sailing isn’t being evasive...just honest

I asked all the same questions when I was awaiting class...the research os important

Problem is multi-fold:

- Winter vs summer

- Holiday months vs non-holiday months

- Senior bases vs NYC

- WB vs NB

If you are a new hire, than your choices are:

MD-88
717
A320
7ER

Bases are all over...and movement will vary depending on when you get to what seat.

ATL 88 will be the fastest movement...my guess, 2 months to a line

NYC anything prolly fast too

Slower on avg for all others...I think

The NYC 7ER slots given out now will be in luck...the last ones awarded will be the plug a long time (my guess).

I personally think base is most important - ya gotta get to work.

I am sure others will chime in

PM me if you wanna chat

Quote: Seniority will come much faster on the 717. 73N has many red eyes compared to zero on the 717. The 717 does however do some flying that starts and ends in SNA if that is a factor. With some seniority on the 717 there are some very good trips.
Thank you Ray Red. I actually prefer red-eyes (been a vampire for the last few years). So, taking this into consideration, you recommend 73 over 717 in LAX?

I just got the CJO today and they are talking about an April 8th class date....

Congratulations!

Also keep in mind that each drop is different and seniority in class is important as well. My class had 717 and 73N positions in LAX but the bottom half of the class was all ATL -88

If you don’t mind red-eyes, and aren’t an overly tall/big man....Then you will love the 737. They have a great bid backage (in atl).

You really can't go wrong either way. Movement will be faster on the 717, but 2nd year pay isn't as much. I'm on the 717 right now and have no desire to switch. Getting the schedule you want, vacations, days off is worth more to me than the hourly increase by going to the 73N or 7ER. Plus if you are senior in your seat you are able to more easily bid to fly with LCA's and then get bought off when they are doing OE.

Congrats on getting hired. you will like it here.

NWA did DCA -IAD for awhile on the 757.

Thank you Ray! Are you LAX based? If you are, sounds like there are some serious QOL advantages of the 717 that are worth considering.
