Is it worth it? Probably neutral. Not a vacation because as you mentioned you should be studying. But you do get per diem, so thats a nice ~$50/day? If you don't handle jet lag well it could be a major negative.

Didn't train overseas, but know people that did. They got junior manned into it--lowest seniority in their GS class. I understand that you do all the sim training, but they bring you back to the US for the type ride. I assume they don't want to deadhead captains to France for seat support.

Personally, I would pick the slot with the best footprint for you. If that is Paris/Finland so be it. You'll have plenty of time to travel while you await IOE.

Sims are the biggest event of your professional life. Do it as close to your time zone as possible.
When you’re waiting for IOE non-rev to Paris on Delta One on YOUR schedule. Come back with a French wife as a newly minted ATP holder.
No one wants to send people to Europe for sims.

Can anyone who’s been at the overseas sim lately comment on whether or not it’s worth it? As far as I’m concerned, new hires are super busy prepping and chair flying so I’m not sure if there is really any tangible benefit unless it gets you done sooner or lines up better with whatever timing someone is desiring.

Doing it now. "Worth it" is subjective. I stayed on US time so my socializing and/or visiting time is pretty limited, but that's a personal choice. It's worth it if you get done sooner, and get yourself in the IOE line. Otherwise, just take a US footprint. Not flying because you're waiting on OE is time you're not building for the next job, so if it's a two week difference between STL and Paris, just bite the bullet and come here. Also, it's like $80 something in per diem per day... if you're into the extra money thing.

Hard to complain about getting paid to sit around but just looking forward to flying before I forget everything.

Yep, I was the first in my class to finish IOE. There are many who finished after me who are now flying. Even people in entire classes after me…I’m now going on week 19 awaiting IOE. I have no clue how they pick who they call for IOE.

I think the most I waited for IOE when I was flying for OO was 3 days.

Not necessarily true, but maybe in theory. People can request IOE from specific domiciles or with specific LCAs (not always granted). The order IOE was scheduled for my class is all over the place.
