Have a buddy that just went through indoc in SLC. He says the rumor around there is classes won’t resume until June/July. Too many FOs and they are proactively booking the future sim slots for the upgrade classes (original delay for ground is because company wants ground + sim with very little delay in between). Rumors can just be rumors but…….that sucks
They’ll most likely have SIMS sitting idle. This has everything to do with Captain staffing. That won’t improve anytime soon. It will probably get worse before it gets better. I think they won’t hire anyone for a year just like what’s going on at Republic and the AA WO’s. I think that rumor is downplaying the situation. I’d bet they don’t run new hire classes for a while.

SkyWest upgraded every eligible FO to CA before the new year. They’ll be lucky to have north of 40 upgrades a month, the ground school can handle closer to few hundred trainees a month from what I remember.

You can stop playing dumb with my words. So what’s the February “Newhire” class schedules looking like? What’s the monthly attrition rate with CAs? How many CAs to FOs on the current seniority list? They upgraded every eligible FO on the entire seniority list before January correct? How many FO’s at SkyWest are meeting the minimum hours to upgrade per month?
I’d bet the answers to those questions are concerning. Anyone who thinks they’re delaying new hire class “TBT” for “upgrades” is freaking delusional.
When I was working at SkyWest they were pounding 200 initial and 200 upgrade pilots a month through training like it was nothing. You and I both know there’s no SIM availability issue for incoming new hires.

Any chance you can provide some answers to my questions? You’re still at SkyWest, all those questions I asked can be answered. What’s the attrition with the gone list look like? What’s the seniority list look like? How many upgrade awards for February? Why are they canceling all New hire class dates starting in February?

upgrades = as many that are qualified. Newhire classes not clx’ed as far as anyone knows, but size of classes smaller do to the “imbalance”. And trying to shrink the wait between indoc/systems.. It’s all captain driven.. attrition has slowed a little. Ask again on Feb 1st and will see.. everything is subject to change.. as we have seen the last 6 months.. be toxic all you want. Every airline is going through teething pains… SkyWest included..
