My understanding: They are still getting quality applicants but many do not have the recency that SKW would have required in the past (ie turbine-experienced pilots who have been out of aviation for a few years). Apparently they are willing to work with those folks (extra SIM and especially IOE)...you have to meet the standard but now you can take longer to do so. But they are also terminating more new-hires than in the past, so you do have to meet the standard eventually.

For now they're benefiting from the pool of folks who bailed on aviation during the bad years and are now willing to get back onboard in hopes of moving up fast. That pool will dry up eventually.

He meant line check airmen applicants. Everyone that I know that's a LCA are very knowledgeable and it suits their personalities to be a LCA. Everyone has their app in but few get chosen, company is big on pilots reliability at work for that position. They are running big classes (13 is quite a lot of LCA) , currently ORD has 25 LCA on the 175 alone with about 90 captains bidding last minute. It's now about 150 CA in ORD on 175, so will be 1 in 5 CA are a LCA. Problem we've run into is the FAA says we are only allowed x amount of LCA and we already have x but we aren't getting the full utilization of the current ones. Company is trying take away LCA for people they can't use like the stand up crews to make room in the roster

I've been hired by Republic but want to keep my option open. Interviewing with Skywest in a couple of weeks. This week I'm interviewing with TSA AND GoJet just primarily for the interview experience to prepare for the Skywest interview. BUT ya never know what could happen and who I could go with. Also interviewing with ExpressJet and Envoy too.

The LCA are getting burned out so I think that's why some of them bid for ways to not do IOE all the time.

While I agree there are many well qualified and apt LCA's, there are many that are just massive koolaid drinkers. If you question any CS assignment or garbage FO procedure, you are simply not LCA material.

And don't forget, extra points if you're Mormon.

The real problem is is how IOE is being scheduled. (Was just iver tasking for the few that did it) There making huge changes with that, and getting more people envolved. Should make it more efficient.. Most are only waiting 1-2 weeks now.. LCA's do a lot more then ioe.. Annual line checks need to be completed and special airport checkouts.. Just hold on. Things are getting more efficient..

You may be waiting longer than that if you have your hopes pinned on the 175. SkyWest is staffing it at 7 crews per airframe and we're currently just about at 300 crews either on line or in some phase of training. That's enough for 43 planes, and amazingly enough, we have 3 AK birds and soon to take delivery on our 40th (and final) UAL 175. The only deliveries we have left are on the AK side. Quite a few FO's will be reaching the end of their seatlock soon, and there may be a transition rush for PDX and SEA as the AK 700's go away next year. Unless we suddenly get more flying, my friends who've been in training recently are saying the instructors are planning on flying the line a lot more this fall (read: smaller and fewer classes).

If you get hired, take whatever you can get, don't hold out for the engines under the wings. Seniority is everything.

Having friends who are the actual instructors, I'd say your friends are optimistic. When I talked to MS about being an instructor back in April, he said "you won't be flying the line until 2016 at least".

So I had to pass on it. The instructors I do know, all credit 140+ a month, but they also get 0 choice of days worked, where they go to sim, etc. they make a ton, but they also work a LOT. Props to instructors man.

That being said, We already have classes of 175s full past november now, where do you supposed those guys will go then? because I have friends from other airlines in late october class and some that are now applying that have been told december would be optimistic at best.

It just hasn't been announced publicly yet. there's got to be a 200 for 175 swap somewhere in the future. which sucks because I'm on the CRJ now but. I don't mind.

I hope this new "liason" does something about the pairing mix in denver. standups and 4 days makes everyone but commuters hate life.
