When non-rev on DL will they upgrade coach passengers (cabin oversold by two) or board non rev into open business seats (just enough to squeak on, but not if the oversold pax get bumped up)? It's an international flight.

Ugh. Another month, and this time I kept my bids pretty simple - only trying to get a certain 3 days off for a function I wanted to attend. I didn't complicate things by adding other parameters I JUST wanted those three days - Only to have a CN standup added in right over them. I don't know why I bother.

My experience is that they will put non-revs into the open FC on international flights. Domestic they will usually upgrade the frequent flyers to FC, but international you can usually get the seats up front. Makes the flight way better and is almost like a vacation in itself.

No joke. IAH is a pretty small base, most of the flying was done by other domiciles. They'd likely feel the hit harder than anyone in IAH. Well, that, and UA puts anything from 200's to 757-300's on some routes and who knows what the future holds.
I do think that the 18 UA 175's, DL 175's (that will replace CPZ on the West Coast), and the movement of 700's to the AA operation in LA will see more flying shifted west. However, that doesn't mean IAH will vanish, might be harder to get for a newb. Likely not closed.

Hey, use a "platinum day" then pick up a stand up or during your 2-3 day off segment wait for premium time to pop up

I second this. Granted I'm outside looking in (don't work for any of the IAH based carriers) but out of the 3 regionals it seems like Mesa is the better bet if your #1 priority is having a IAH base. This is coming from a friend's experience of being based in IAH for Skywest.
...just my 2 cents.
