I was not a very good student. I had a 2.7 GPA from college with D's on my transcript and I got hired at SKW

I was a D student. Skywest never asked for my transcripts. I've never failed a checkride and I did well in initial training. People change and get their lives together. Skywest seems to understand that.

I completely agree. There are many factors that can cause a poor GPA, mine was I lost my mentor and hero. I have two degrees, for my freshman and half of my sophomore years I held a 3.4 GPA. My father died and my grades fell causing me to graduate with a 2.42 (C- student) after 5 years. I had several D's. SkyWest did asked to see my transcripts but I was ready and willing to present them (they didn't care if they were sealed or not). Regardless of my GPA I am proud that I hung in there and graduated. I can’t say I regret my GPA giving my circumstances but the fact is it taught me an invaluable life lesson. Since graduating I’ve excelled in both my first and second careers. I've never repeated a lesson, stage check or check ride and my lowest test grade including all my tests at SkyWest was a 96.

By no means is a person's GPA an accurate indicator of their aptitude.

I agree with you and I'd be proud, too, if I stuck it out through all of that.

But how are you gonna sell that to Delta?

Delta is the most militant when it comes to interviews. I'll just tell the truth, explain the life lessons I've learned from my college years, the lessons I've learned over the 14 years since I graduated and how it made me the man I am today. If they choose not to hire me then Delta's not right for me. But between the big three (DL, UA, US/AA) one of them will hire me.

Personally I don't want to work for a carrier who places more weight on what a piece of paper from 14 years ago says over the person before them and what they’ve accomplished since.

I feel the same way. Hopefully Delta, and others, will be able to look past the GPAs of some, because it's not always the best metric to select employees.

Good luck to us all. Especially if you're senior to me.

Those of you that interviewed recently, how long did they take to get back afterwards?

I got an email a few hours after I left HQ. I think it varies though with how busy/backed up they are.

True but it is a metric .Will they use a GPA to eliminate you, no but when comparing two equal prospects after interview and one has a noticeablely lower GPA then that would help make the decision.

I agree, there is nothing I can do about it now and I accept that. The ONLY blemish I have is my college GPA and if I don’t get hired life will move on. Financially I’m already secure so staying at SkyWest would be the end of the world.

Over the next year the Legacies will have the luxury of being very selective so I’m not expecting a call. Even with my 4000+ hours of 121 T-PIC, 2 degrees and half a dozen+ internals (DL, UA & US/AA). But sometime within the next 2-3ish years I truly believe the airlines will be hiring feverishly and will no longer have the luxury of demanding stellar records. When they offer you an interview it will be with the intent of hiring you, so the job is yours to lose. Which means you won't be competing with the guys sitting next to you. If and when I’m selected I will be fully prepared, this is all I can control.

BTW, when I interviewed at SkyWest there were 11 of us. I had the least experience by far and the lowest GPA of the group. I was the only one hired.
