Thanks for the info. I know nothing is ever guaranteed in this business but never hurts to ask the people who are already in what they see happening.
Peak, if it helps I am leaving the cushy 60K engineering job to get back in a plane. As easy as my current job is, I still get stressed out spending 40+ hours a week in a small office with no windows.

Longer than some, not as long as others. COS is different because the top three quarters never leave, it's a small base (and appears to be shrinking) that is difficult to commute to since MX base trips usually start very early and end very late. And most people there live there so have no motivation to transfer out. DEN has a lot more movement in and out, which can be good and bad, as you will move up and back as people come and go.
DEN reserve FO's have been here at least 2 years, but there were no upgrade classes run for about 6 months, and no one was leaving for other airlines so that stifled movement a lot. All of that has changed, so for a new hire, I would plan on 2 years, and you will be pleasantly surprised when it turns out to be quite a bit less.

But there are people that want or even need the stability and routine of that engineering office job. If you are wanting to start a family soon, or not be forced to move from home, or don't want to work on holidays, you need to really think about doing this. That being said, I am a lineholder at SkyWest and have half the month off. I take a lot of vacations and have a lot less stress in my life now. I also have no debt. It was a pretty easy decision for me!

Another ex-engineer here. Left the nice salary and the window-facing cubicle to fly professionally a bit over a year ago, and no turning back. Still "paying the dues" but it has been manageable since my wife works and we prepared ahead of time financially... Do I wish I made more? You bet I do. I tell you what, though, the satisfaction of achieving a childhood dream is some pretty serious Kool Aid to help get through a few lean years.

Right now the most junior lineholder in DEN is about two years, and the most junior lineholder in COS is a little over a year. The reserve time in any RJ base is pretty bad because they didn't run any upgrades for 8 months. They're upgrading and transitioning people now. There's been a lot of movement in the past two bid awards. By the time you get online hopefully reserve time in DEN will be under two years.
