Majors don't mind signing long term contracts when you're a non-union carrier with a proven track record and a strong balance sheet. No threat of strike, no treat of bankruptcy. How many times has Mesa sought bankruptcy protection? How many times has SkyWest? See how that works?

I applied 4 days ago, after I hit ATP mins on sunday., Really looking forward to get a shot at skw..

After you apply in airline apps, how long do you hear something from HR? Also, should we apply at the Skywest website also or just airline apps is enough?

Give it a few weeks. They are really busy right now but they'll get to you.

Is it a 2 year seat lock for both aircraft, or only for the EMB-120?

Easy. Rickair is stating facts, not espousing his opinions. Additionally, he has actually worked at both places

Not lately. Look at SKWs older contracts vs. the newer ones...compare and contrast.

When was the last time a regional was allowed to strike (assuming they even wanted to)? COMAIR. Look where that got them. Strikes at the regional level won't happen, and anyway the majors have wised up and try not to allow any one regional to "own" a large geographic destination set...makes it very hard to accurately define struck work

It's worked out great for mesa actually...look at how they're currently being rewarded for their trip through BK.

Majors use the regional system for one thing only: cost control. They don't give a rat's butt about stability, quality, solvency, etc. They care about performance a little but they can always fire you and switch regionals if needed. That's my fundamental frustration with the regional gig...quality, caring, performance, dedication doesn't matter in the slightest.

And don't even think about accumulating longevity...that's the kiss of death. Not only do they want low pay scales, they want everybody on the bottom rungs of said scales.
