the delta vs. alaska chess match in seattle continues. Is Tucson a skywest mx base? That seems like an odd city choice for DL if it's not.

Delta to offer nonstop service from Seattle to Palm Springs, Phoenix, Tucson, Jackson Hole - WSJ.com
Tuson and Palm Springs are both MX bases

Speaking of SEA, what's the FO seniority situation like? About how long should a new-hire expect until (s)he can hold the base? What about the Bro at PDX?

Curiosity kills. Many thanks.

SEA is CRJ only and it is very senior (several years to even hold it as an FO) but you can get PDX on the Bro quickly, if not right away.

And they also have a firm order of 300 aircraft, possibly 600 aircraft, coming to offset that. How many does Mesa have on order? Oh right, Mesa can't get the financing needed to order aircraft.

They don't need any. The old paradigm was that the regional bought/leased the planes (saving the major the expense) but would thus require a longer-term contract (ten+ years) to minimize the tail risk on the backside of the contract. Several problems with this, on of which is the major can't unload the planes if needed, and if the regional sucks, they may not be able to replace the planes (this is why AW and then US never fired mesa...too inconvenient to lose the 40 900's owned by mag).

The new paradigm is for the major to buy the planes, and then Ho them out to the lowest bidder on a short-term basis. If things don't work out it's easy to swap operators, and they have flexibility every few years when the contract expires to rebid the flying or just eliminate it altogether. This essentially eliminates SKWs big financial advantage.

The most junior CRJ first officer for SEA was hired 6 years ago. Very senior!
