I have a question for the SkyWest guys. Why the animosity towards XJT? We are always willing to give you guys a ride and we say hi in the terminal. Sure we have a few gems, but so do you....like a CA that accused me of "cutting into his profit sharing check." Our CPA loses money but it isn't our fault. 95% of the guys here do their best to get it done. We did everyone a favor by voting down that TA (if you haven't seen it, it's horrible. Thoughts?
Regarding your experience with a jerk CA over here, please just realize he's a jackass. We all have them. When I was a new hire a few years ago, I was flying with a senior CA that was whining about how small our bonus checks were in 2008, and that we should have furloughed pilots rather than reduce line awards and bonuses. He was dead serious too. Of course, he was also too inept to pass CRJ transition, and is stuck in a dying airplane (Brasilia). Karma is a real you know what...

LOL, that makes it okay. We're losing millions of dollars but nobody should care because they are going to get a 200-300 "bonus" check to make me think everything is going good.... Management is in over their heads right now and if they don't turn it around its not going to end well. I know you're a fanboy and all but seriously they better start securing themselves some larger RJ contracts for the future instead of sitting around and watching them go elsewhere. There's only a certain number of 76 seat airframes that can be flown for UA/DL and they are currently maxed out...so when the 200 goes away, what's SkyWest going to be left with? 40 175 and a handful of 700/900s? I don't care that they "secured" hundreds of delivery slots because its not going to matter when they have nobody to fly them for.

Just about every single facet of life contains some form of immorality or whipsaws for money. The sooner you realize that that's not ever going to change and that there's nothing you or I could do to change it the easier life gets. Getting bent out of shape about how Inc does business and letting it affect what you do in your free time will prove nothing but a waste of time. I always hate when I hear people say " If it's so bad quit" but there is a little bit of truth to that statement.
No but I am smart enough to realize that overall, unions are just as unhelpful as not have gotten a union. They take your money, and generally protect the lazy, incompetent, and the entitled.
You negative nancies may scream the loudest, but I am willing to bet you are in the minority. I've yet to talk to one person (in real life) that has anything seriously negative to say. Just because not everything is perfect does not mean a union is a good idea.
Honestly you whiners should have seen my last job... Wanna talk about needing a union.

In the airline pilot profession though (cant really speak for any other profession), it is a necessary evil. And it has nothing to do with everything being perfect. Even if it was, this profession is so safety critical, that a union is the best way to ensure you have a say in all aspects of the aviation safety systems. Otherwise, you are just being one of those entitled people who doesn't contribute. Think ASAP.
Anyway, a union is not the end all be all. But if your airline belongs to one (RAA, A4A), or your CEO has an employment contract (all airline CEOs do), then its probably because these smart people know its the smart thing to do. The key is the people you vote in to be in charge.
He is right about some things. I don't think anyone is blind to it. There is a group of old timers at SkyWest who will never join a union and are pro company even at their own peril. If I had to guess I'd say less than 10%.
A few more are purposefully ignorant but the vast majority are looking at the landscape with clear vision.
He says he's not in the mood to do anyone any favors (regarding pbs, etc) yet he expects SkyWest pilots to do him a favor. When it was just ASA there was a strong sentiment about joining together. But suddenly XJT is invited to the party and they don't bring any beer. And then they kick the dog.
Maybe management just cleverly created animosity to break any unity, but if you were in the industry for any time you knew there was some truth to it. And you couldn't talk to an XJT guy to ask because they were already so ****ed.
What Nev has to realize is the problem isn't the message.

Thanks management for negotiating money losing CPAs.

travel benefits
Does anyone know how long it takes to start using CASS and family travel benefits. it may be in here somewhere but I've surfed through a lot of the pages to no avail.
Please don't think I'm sounding too eager, coming from another airline I'm used to having them, so it'll be tough to not have them, if we end up with big break between ground and sim. I start class Aug 25.
thanks!

Last 2 classes have been msp and ord, although most bases are attainable within 6 months except pdx and sea.
