I talk to you guys all the time. I've found that most of you are like me... Just trying to get through this crazy industry as quickly and stress free as possible. Everybody at XJet I've talked with has been very nice, but I sure don't bring up the subject of work! Maybe that has something to do with it. The ones that don't talk to me (and there are many), won't even acknowledge me as I walk by. Maybe they're just busy, too tired to notice, or just jerks. Who knows, but I really don't care.

Regarding your experience with a jerk CA over here, please just realize he's a jackass. We all have them. When I was a new hire a few years ago, I was flying with a senior CA that was whining about how small our bonus checks were in 2008, and that we should have furloughed pilots rather than reduce line awards and bonuses. He was dead serious too. Of course, he was also too inept to pass CRJ transition, and is stuck in a dying airplane (Brasilia). Karma is a real you know what...

LOL, that makes it okay. We're losing millions of dollars but nobody should care because they are going to get a 200-300 "bonus" check to make me think everything is going good.... Management is in over their heads right now and if they don't turn it around its not going to end well. I know you're a fanboy and all but seriously they better start securing themselves some larger RJ contracts for the future instead of sitting around and watching them go elsewhere. There's only a certain number of 76 seat airframes that can be flown for UA/DL and they are currently maxed out...so when the 200 goes away, what's SkyWest going to be left with? 40 175 and a handful of 700/900s? I don't care that they "secured" hundreds of delivery slots because its not going to matter when they have nobody to fly them for.

I'm glad somebody gets it.. This is word for word what I try to tell people but a lot of the guys I fly with just don't get it

I can respect that. I came from a non-union flying job and was very apprehensive at first. But unless you plan to stay or go to Virgin America, AND hope they never unionize, then it will become a bigger factor. A pilot union is really smart in this profession, in my opinion.

I always hate when I hear people say " If it's so bad quit" but there is a little bit of truth to that statement.
You know, you are right. I spend too much time here. I think I'll try to limit it to overnights, sits, and the crapper. But I still feel that regardless of whether I know that just about every facet of life contains some form of immorality, it wont stop me from speaking and acting on my convictions. If instead I was in what I probably would be doing instead, financial planning, I would speak up just as loudly as well. Fact is that right now, this regional industry is the current sphere I'm in. So if I see immorality, I will point it out. And I think everyone should also. Then maybe there wouldn't be as much. We need more of Rosa Parks types to make things better, don't you think? Basically, what I'm saying is that just because it happens, it doesn't make it right. If anything does bend me out of shape is people who justify bad behavior. I'm glad that people like Rosa didnt just quit riding the bus! And she was just ONE person who got a movement going!

You negative nancies may scream the loudest, but I am willing to bet you are in the minority. I've yet to talk to one person (in real life) that has anything seriously negative to say. Just because not everything is perfect does not mean a union is a good idea.

Honestly you whiners should have seen my last job... Wanna talk about needing a union.
This is true. Unions do generally protect the lazy, incompetent, and the entitled. Unfortunately, these people are in all work places. And they would be just as lazy and incompetent at a non-union place. You probably a couple there. This is more of a management function in making sure they hire the right people. But a union is bound by duty of fair representation. They are bound to represent and defend anyone that bound by the contract. Think of them as a defense lawyer. Sometimes OJ gets away with it. But trust me, at least in the airlines, eventually they get caught.

In the airline pilot profession though (cant really speak for any other profession), it is a necessary evil. And it has nothing to do with everything being perfect. Even if it was, this profession is so safety critical, that a union is the best way to ensure you have a say in all aspects of the aviation safety systems. Otherwise, you are just being one of those entitled people who doesn't contribute. Think ASAP.

Anyway, a union is not the end all be all. But if your airline belongs to one (RAA, A4A), or your CEO has an employment contract (all airline CEOs do), then its probably because these smart people know its the smart thing to do. The key is the people you vote in to be in charge.

A few more are purposefully ignorant but the vast majority are looking at the landscape with clear vision.

He says he's not in the mood to do anyone any favors (regarding pbs, etc) yet he expects SkyWest pilots to do him a favor. When it was just ASA there was a strong sentiment about joining together. But suddenly XJT is invited to the party and they don't bring any beer. And then they kick the dog.
Maybe management just cleverly created animosity to break any unity, but if you were in the industry for any time you knew there was some truth to it. And you couldn't talk to an XJT guy to ask because they were already so ****ed.

What Nev has to realize is the problem isn't the message.
I never said I wouldn't do any favors, especially when it comes to PBS. In fact, I'm on record saying that I would take a bigger concession than the last TA by agreeing to all Skywest work rules, policies, and pay rates if it meant One List. And I don't expect any favors. It would just be nice if you guys joined in on helping out the profession rather than just sit on the sidelines.

And this is something I've mentioned as well. IF you ever had another union vote, I would be that management would float the idea of just merging both airlines in order to sway you against unionizing. But just because you go union, doesn't automatically mean a merger. Management is too smart to give that away. They would still want something in return. And honestly, why shouldn't they? I'm ok with working together to achieve a common goal of having a competitive airline, One Airline, for all of us to compete against the other airlines.

My guess is that most of the animosity you read on here is directed to me. And thats ok with me. I'm fine taking the brunt for stating certain facts and my opinion. I dont expect everyone to agree. We all have our opinions.

Default travel benefits

Does anyone know how long it takes to start using CASS and family travel benefits. it may be in here somewhere but I've surfed through a lot of the pages to no avail.
Please don't think I'm sounding too eager, coming from another airline I'm used to having them, so it'll be tough to not have them, if we end up with big break between ground and sim. I start class Aug 25.
thanks!

You'll be in CASS almost right away and be able to Jumpseat home between class and sim. I think DL benefits you have to wait 30 days and I think UA is something like 14 days.

Last 2 classes have been msp and ord, although most bases are attainable within 6 months except pdx and sea.
