Have to bid days off in PBS (it builds your reserveine based on "coverage days"). But we can swap reserve days in sked+, proffer for what trips we want or type of trip, long hotel for TDY... Normal senority while
On TDY, last day of reserve "commuter relief",... I don't think bidding in PBS will be as bad as it sounds... But will see..

Where can I find these 'new' reserve rules?

Reserve proposals are on the sapa web site.

I gotta say PBS bidding for days off on reserve makes me pretty nervous. The others are nice changes. Having the ability to choose between PBS for a line and a hard line (RSV) is IMO a good thing.

I thought this was interesting. Majors are growing but not at a tremendous rate despite record profits. Biggest U.S. Airlines Are Profitable? And Reluctant To Add Capacity | Commercial Aviation content from Aviation Week

The PBS bidding isn't a done deal, it is still in proposal development purgatory, but it has been a disaster for junior FAs, although FAs are clueless in general when it comes to bidding, soo...

Most of the rest of the rules have the standard "as staffing permits" loopholes so you can bet your butt that they'll get bent/ignored according to standard methods. Proffering would be nice, but that is also still stuck in purgatory, so basically PM and LC reserves get done early on their last day if they haven't been used. Yay.

They are called FAR117, read it, know it, live it! Remember SGU will not agree to ANYTHING unless they solely benefit. If you remember this template you will not be suprised. Example: You call SS and ask for a day of vacation, if there is a snowballs chance of you being needed, denied, if there are 25 reserves and its 2355, they will "give" you the day off in exchange for 3.75hrs of user time. See how it works....

With the exception of auto release for PM and LCR's, the whole when you should and shouldn't answer your phone game seems to be the same. Be careful with the "ACKNOWLEDGE" button, it can get you into more trouble than the execute key.

There is a Reserve Survival Guide on the SAPA forum. It is helpful in navigating the rules: not gospel but helpful.

This is dependent on your situation. If you are outside of your 12 hour window and receive a phone call from a UT area code you should probably resist the urge to answer. Here's why: If your reserve period begins at 4 a.m., the earliest you can be required to show is 6 a.m. , however if you answer your phone you are notified and can be required to show earlier. Doesn't sound like a big deal but if your drive time to the airport is 2 hours your looking at a 2 a.m. wake up. Regarding the acknowledge button, make sure you review your trip assignment prior to acknowledging the trip. There will be a link with the associated trip number. Chat with the guys / gals in your domicile that are on reserve and gather some information. This is not an US vs THEM thing, it's a "cover your six" thing. On occasion you will be asked if you can make it to the airport in under 2 hours. I recommend you always answer "No". If you say yes and fail to make it under the 2 hours you will receive a SAD (Schedule Assignment Deviation); not a good thing for a guy on probation. I have not had any bad experiences with CS but I think I'm fortunate because I'm in a small domicile and I do not get used very often. Review the FAR 117 reserve rules. I think you'll be surprised at just how much you can get used and abused on reserve, legally. Don't let all the doom and gloom get you down. This is a good place to be.

I'm fairly well aware of the 117 requirements. I'm referring to the new reserve procedures at SKW. I guess I'll just learn as I go.

As far as I can tell, the #1 rule is, "If you want to fly as much as possible, answer the phone whenever CS calls. If you want to fly as little as possible, never answer the phone, ever, unless you are within your assigned RAP." That seems fairly straightforward...
