Contemplating a transition from the ERJ to the CRJ. I've enjoyed the schedule flexibility and traveled a bit the past year, but the ERJ in ORD is cake and the crews are usually senior and subsequently boring. Airplanes are airplanes in my book. Been here 1.5years, and I'm thinking it would be nice to upgrade in the same plane I flew as an FO, learn something new, go to some new places, Delta Benefits, etc. So incur a 1yr seat lock, perhaps lose my privilege to drop stuff, anything else? Thoughts?

Hi Everyone. I'm interviewing in a couple of weeks. I live near Chicago, so that would be where I'd like to be based. Can anyone let me know where the better QOL lies--CRJ/ERJ if given a choice, how long reserve would be on each, is training similar on the two planes, etc. Thanks in advance.

CRJ in ORD. ORD is going surprisingly senior on the ERJ there. New hires are being dumped in SEA and the rest of the west coast. If you want Chicago, CRJ is the only way you are getting it. Training is all similar and you will hold ORD by the time you are out of IOE

Everyone keeps saying how extremely senior the ERJ in ORD is. Junior guy there was hired in May. So likely right out of training or the next month. We are bringing on over 50 more ERJs before the end of next year. Either plane will get you ORD in short order. You will likely fly more on the CRJ, at least at first. It's anyone's guess what things will look like in 6 months.
So yes, while you MAY...MAY get ORD at some point, do you really want to sit on endless reserve when you could be flying on the CRJ? |
