How was SkyWest training simulator and initial ground ? Anything you can recommend that I can study?

I am concerned about the simulator as that will be a brand new experience.
I am coming from instructing part 61.

They aren't throwing money at you because you do a good job lol secondly, a bonus of any sort won't deter anyone from going to mainline , so st best it deters you from lateral moves from a forever reserve at envoy , crappy trips , work rules, treatment at psa to a LCC or a better regional

Well obviously the pay and bonuses are meant to attract and retain FOs. But work rules and treatment aren't bad at PSA. I think you have a lot of misconceptions.

They will fill classes until they can't. When that day comes it will be to late to throw money to attract pilots. The money will be a very big recruitment delema in the near future.

The simulator training is excellent. From what I have been told, it seems to be one of the better simulators....didn't really notice a difference once I got in the plane. I came from instructing as well and didn't have a problem. The speed of a jet takes getting used to, but otherwise the instructors do an excellent job at explaining everything and will go the extra mile to help you out if you ask and are making a reasonable effort. Same goes with ground school. Make sure you have all the ep&l's memorized BEFORE coming to ground school, it will allow you to devote all of your time to studying the classroom material. Also, looking over Excemption 3585 and FAR 117 isn't a bad idea, most people seem to get hung up on those topics during indoc.

Yes, but how are the trips, QOL, schedules? There's more to life than pay rates. You can pay me a ridiculous hourly rate, but if I have to fly a 9-hour 4 day it doesn't really matter.

Nonetheless, SGU needs to open their wallets. Our pay rates aren't even industry-average anymore.

Few pages at most on PSA thread says different

I have a friend at PSA who tells me all the stories there. Yeah, no thanks, I'll stay put here.

And I have a friend who used to work at SkyWest and has told me about the crap there. Every regional (and every airline) has dirty laundry and things wouldn't be normal if pilots weren't complaining about something.
I'm not sure when your friend was hired, but I don't have any complaints personally. Been here almost 2 years. Holding a line for almost a year now. I usually only work 12-14 days /month and I make good money and travel. Reserve sucks here, but I'm pretty sure that's everywhere.

Trips are great if you can pick your schedule with the SAP. I usually get 2 or 3 overnights at home every month and my 4 days credit anywhere from 17 to 24 hours typically (they could hardly get worse than 17 or better than 24). I've got a 5 day next month worth about 32 hours, then a 4 day and a 3 day worth another 35 hours. I work 12 days next month and I'm off the rest and I still managed 2 overnights at home. Some of the trips awarded to you on reserve suck but that's almost anywhere on reserve.

Anyway, I hope you guys see more money and contract improvements soon. It just fuels the fire for everyone else... A rising tide and all that.

I feel like you feel your situation is unique. When I want to bid killer trips I too have a high number of days off. It's not a skywest thing, it's a function of senority. It would tell more if you published your relative senority for your seat.

Pay for established pilots at all companies needs to come up now. The race for the new hire has finally (mostly) leveled out with AMERICAN WO finally following suit.

That's great that you're faring so well at PSA, but I'm still not jumping ship for another regional just to commute and be on reserve for a whole year...all just to fly the same plane.

I hope pay is raised here too but that will depend on how many people our recruiting team is able to pull in...and right now it's still a lot compared with other regionals.
