How they are withheld and how they are taxed are 2 very different things. How is a guaranteed bonus not income? I'm not arguing the merits of going to one of these places that are having to throw all kinds of money at new hires, but bonuses are taxed the same as any other income.

All earned income is taxed at the same rate – regardless of how it is being paid out. Whether you call it wages, bonus, tips or something else is pure semantics (and even some per diem is taxed as income).

The only thing that varies may be the withholding rate. The IRS basically withholds money because (1) they don’t want to give you an interest free loan and (2) they probably worry that you spend it all before they can collect it.

And btw, you can tune your withholding to whatever you want it to be. Just dial up the exemptions on your W4. You can claim as many as you want…. Just make sure you don’t owe too much at the end of the year or the IRS collects a penalty for that interest free loan you created.

Regardless the same tax rate applies to all earned income when it is all reconciled on 4/15.

Oh and about pay, just checked my pay stub, I am on track to make $45k income first year. That was before training pay was changed to reserve guarantee pay. And beginning Jan 2017, we get 1.5% raise to hourly rate. So it's not bad by any means.

First year does not go up in January.

They are not putting fo's in training positions any more due to the mass amounts they have lost due to them upgrading months after they were put in the training dept.

Right now on the careers page they have job openings for CRJ ground instructors and CRJ FTD/CPT. And ERJ CA and ERJ FO instructors.. ive talk to several former or current instructors and it seems a good gig if you live in base. (DEN ERJ or SLC CRJ) but you dont bid for your training schedule. Then you bid in PBS to fill in the blanks with flying..

Those are FTD instructors, to be a actual sim instructor you have to be a captain. Yes usually we do "FTD" sessions in a sim but that's changing on the 175. Any Sim lesson (full motion) is a captain instructor, FTD is FO
