I'm trying to figure out when a person sitting reserve is most vulnerable to getting called vs not.

I am about to start 6 days straight of reserve. On day 1 there are 2 of us with 6 days of availability. But since 4 day pairings seem to be the max in the ERJ, can I assume that everyone with 4 and 5 days available are also in my "bucket"?. If so, are they likely to call the 4 day people first, then the 5 day guy before they burn a guy with 6 days left?

So are you most vulnerable when you have 2-4 days available on reserve?

I'm not trying to break any rules here and I certainly want to do my "time" but seriously there are like 50 FO's at any given moment sitting reserve in ORD on the ERJ right now. Seems abhorrent to pull people away from their families so they can just sit there with their thumbs stuck where the sun don't shine with no chance of ever flying. Buddies from my class have been there 3 weeks already and haven't flown once. If I'd known I would have just stayed in the Air Force, where sitting around wasting life is the MO. At least I would have been making 3x more money for getting my thumb dirty.

A few things to add:

Just because you're deep in a 6 day bucket doesn't mean you cant be called. You might be read meat a few days out in the 2 or 3 day lineup. Say they toss a trip like this on your schedule all the sudden you can find yourself moving from the 6 day bucket to the 4 or 3 day bucket in a hurry. OBR is a possibility as well. Keep in mind that pilots still on IOE show up as reserves, at least a class worth... maybe more. Is reserve even more than one bidding month right now? We all get that it blows but you just have to do it.

Most of the chiefs are pretty pro pilot, I still wouldn't want my first interaction to be discussing why I was out of position for a callout during the first year. They do fire pilots for things like that, SKW does not like liars.

Lol reserve on the 175 isn't a month. It's over a year.

Do they know that at 7PM on the last day a "volunteer period" starts where they don't have to answer their phone. The caveat being that if from 7-9pm CrewSupport does try to assign you a future trip, you must go online and accept it by noon the next day.

I'd hate to see guys commuting home on a day off because they haven't read the ppm.

Check your info CA Happy. I'm a transistioning CA with a new hire sim partner. Finished IOE in April and the newb has a line in June. I'll have to double check my calendar but that doesn't seem like over a year.

My bad. It was over a year just a little while ago but I guess ord finally got some lines.

Hence the 10 month upgrade. All the 175 fos couldn't get 1000 121 if they tried.

Now this is true. It's pretty common to fly with FO's who could be lineholding CA's on the CRJ if they had the time. Many don't help their own cause (live in base and bid reserve) others just don't seem to give a rip, some are just delusional and think a major is going to pluck them up from the right seat with 1,200tt and an RATP.
