Depends on aircraft and base, but I have gotten 3 weeks off with only 1 week of vacation used.

How far out could you plan to have three weeks off? Is that an unusual circumstanc

Supposed to be within 72 hours but she usually has it done in a day or 2.

Longtime reader of these forums. Tried to step away from flying but it continues to steal my limited attention span. I have questions regarding vacation time usage. Currently, I'm fortunate to receive 6 weeks off and am able to use them whenever i wish so that I can take two week vacations with the family. I understand that at the airline industry I would not be rewarded that much per year. If after a few years at skywest, is it correct that you will recieve 3 weeks vacation per year? If so, are you able to combine a week (5 days) at a time with having 4 scheduled days off during a month to make a longer vacation? Is this difficult to accomplish? The attempt is to be able to take a longer vacation than just five days off at a time. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Vacation is accrued from year one but can only be used after your first year (though people have gotten off through their chief pilots) vacation (and user time which can be used as vacation time) is accrued based on your longevity. Not actual numbers here but say 0.05 per hour, you need 2.5 hours to get a vacation day as a line holder and 4.2 as reserve. That being said say my vacation is 1-10th, and I'm only on reserve 1-4 I'll only use vacation for those days on reserve. As a line holder , depending on staffing u can drop and trade trips to make it work, easiest way is to bid to be off last few days of a month and off first few days of next month. 6 weeks vacation you say? That's extreme, my wife only gets two weeks a year and she's at a very good company. The US is poor on vacation but people make it work.

You could definitely do two week stretches. In November we get to do a master vacation bid. Which is awarded week at a time. I think I was able to pick up to 5 weeks. Vacation time limiting. If you don't get the weeks you want, you can at anytime go into the vacation list. If there are extra slots available for the weeks you want you can have them awarded almost immediately.

its easy to get 7-8 days off. 3 weeks master vacation helps for that. I usualy cancel most of my master vacation and just bid around the time i want of. (Instead of taking 7 days master vacationi cut it down to 3. And bid to have the 3-4 days off before it..)

We bid in November for the next year's vacation slots. Each slot is a week long. The company figures out how many weeks you can bid for based upon hours in your bank and how many you will accrue over the next year. Depending on the size of the domicile there will a set amount of slots for each week. It's awarded by seniority of course. If you have three weeks available you can bid them consecutively, whether or not you can hold it is something else. You also list your preferences saying if you cant give me time off in July, make it August, or June... You need to be rather senior to get Christmas, Thanksgiving or time off in the summer. If you don't get the weeks you want you'll be placed on a waiting list.

Now that's for the master bid. At anytime throughout the year you can put in for vacation as well. If it's more than a couple months out it may be immediately awarded, or you may be placed on a waiting list again.

You can cancel vacation (with some restrictions on when), or cancel just parts of it as well. You're not stuck with it.

When you upgrade, transfer, or transition you lose your vacation slot. As senior pilots to you do that (or they quit) that vacation time opens up again and is awarded to those on the waiting list.

I can routinely get 10+ days off while only using 4-5 days of vacation.
