Not saying one is more difficult than another, but the CRJ is a better step for a former CFI. I've seen what product is produced by either airplane and you can't even compare the difference.

I'm not really trying to argue with you, just the 10x better comment. It actually still takes a good amount of descent planning to get the ERJ to fly an arrival well. Throw in some tail wind and really watch them sweat. I get annoyed with the arbitrary 2.5 descent angle "fix all" which really doesn't fix much.

Bit of course here, sorry, but can one of you folks tell me when new hire spoues's get travel benefits? Straight away? Trying to organize relocation for the family...

I did have Roy on my plane the other day and he sat and talked a little bit after the flight. He did say a lot of new things were coming but couldn't get into specifics. I do feel like I trust him more than others

Spouses get benefits about 3-5 days after you fill out the paperwork

I think they're just saying some of the bad apples tend to be from that side, which makes sense. Other 121 guys probably get it and don't come in entitled. Just my guess?

I prefer to fly with former CFI's who have a good attitude even if they're still figuring things out. Attitude is key.

I would guess about half the pilot group came directly from CFI-land. The older crowd almost all had 135/121/mil experience, anybody who's been here more than 15 years.

Yes attitude goes a very long way. Easier to work with a CFI who's on the weak side but has good attitude than a cocky dude who thinks his 300 hours of 91 turbine time makes him god's gift to RJs.

But bad attitude is relatively rare. The problem today seems to be more of a too relaxed attitude, folks will follow the rules/SOP for a while until it gets too inconvenient or boring for them, then whip out the phone and start texting while taxiing at ORD, or on short final.

Agree with the above! I would much rather fly with a new CFI fresh off IOE, than a former military guy who thinks he knows everything and has a crap attitude because he has been "stuck" here longer than he wanted.

As to your second comment, agree as well. I have to place the blame on some of our CAs as well. Being "laid back" on SOP isn't helping anyone. The newer guys are like sponges, absorbing everything good or bad.

I have to chime in.

I don't understand the attitude of these new hires. Do these young guys and gals have no lives (spouse, girl/boyfriend, kids, etc.)? Someone needs to show them some perspective. Life isn't all about flying. This is a job and if all you do is this, you'll look back later in life and see you never truly lived.

I was a young buck once wanting to build time fast, but I realized spending time with family and friends is what values my time, not spending time in a plane all day talking about contracts. This was all during a time when pay was low and pilots were in surplus. Now these guys have an insane amount of opportunities at hand AND better pay, and they're complaining about it. What's the fricking rush? Enjoy the now.

Best post on here.

Work to live, not the other way around.

I like to get some info about what is the minimum total time I should have when submitting an application? I understand that new hires get simi time during CTP training that can be counted towards TT, is that correct?

Tks.
