New Vacancy just released for August. 86 First Officers. 0 Captain Upgrades. That tells me that things are about to come to a grinding halt soon. The 86 First Officers are for those already in training that will need a domicile position when they finish training. With no upgrades on the horizon, it would appear that hiring may slow significantly for the remainder of the year.

Dear lord baby Jesus.
You guys freak out like my kids when I take their phones away.
As mentioned above, pilot hiring is a long lead time growth indicator. Gary Kelly is the cheapest MFer on the planet and he is not hiring pilots to keep from paying time and a half 6 months of the year or JA pay for a handful of weeks. That is pennies compared to putting new pilots and their families health insurance on the payroll 12 months a year.
Step back from the mirror for a minute and consider that maybe, just maybe, the airline knows what they are doing and that the staffing model that has served us well over 4 decades will continue once airframes and routes catch up.
In the meantime, this too shall pass. I agree we are overmanned right now, especially on the FO side, but it won’t last forever.
I am a big open time guy, so I am feeling your pain. I just don’t see a need to panic while this works it’s way out.

I would just like to see a net zero that is not zero for more than a millisecond. Have trips actually taken in ttga. Maybe have the ability to drop to reserves in the next contract.
I know. Wrong company for those that want to work less, not more.

You crack me up! You do realize that the company just had 400 potential candidates come to Dallas last weekend and that there's an application window open this week? Still think hiring is slowing?

Net zero was 1 for around an hour last night on HOU FO side. I am out of trips to trade, but there were plenty of trips and time to trade them. I suspect it stayed that way because folks are avoiding July overlap.

July captain vacancies were planned to be low, so that fact they decided to just make it zero doesn't mean hiring is coming to an end. In fact, it just reinforces that their plan is to keep the FO side really fat.
