Also, find out how long it will take you to get to DFW/DAL out of training. A couple of years ago new hires at AA were being sent to the East Coast to fly E190s with a 2 year seat lock.

AA has the most retirements, but don’t forget hiring. I’m less than 2 years at SWA and sitting at 73% in seat already.

On a separate note, take a look at the SEC filings for both companies as well as financial industry comparisons. AA has a lot of debt and lower profit margins.

No widebodies at SWA though!

AA has dfw captains who are about 7 years, which will probably go lower when the latest bid results post.

less than a year probably. but would take 15-20 years maybe to hold widebody ca in DFW if hired in the next couple years. So if your 35 or younger maybe makes sense.

dfw 787 FO is 4 years but not sure what the qol is bottom of the barrel 787 fo.

From the SW guys Ive talked to you can make probably the same if not more at SW if you work the system if money is your #1 concern. Also if you want 3 on 4 off SW has that too. Might be hard to do at AA with PBS and being junior.

There is a new bid coming out soon we will see. 737 seems slightly junior in DFW. 190's are short lived and will only be 737 and 320 for new hires.

You have bad info...new hire seat lock is 6 months, then can be withheld (at the higher pay rate) for 12 months, so worst case 18 months. DFW is definitely sub 1 year now, CLT is the mega senior base now, but that too will change over time.

[QUOTE=DownAndDirty;2945977

But I've never had someone at another airline point blank tell me I made the right decision going with another airline [/QUOTE]

It’s called being polite, the guy may or may not have believed what he was saying. When someone tells a story like yours to a stranger or even casual acquaintance, the listener is always going to say “you made the right choice” it’s polite and makes you feel better...

I’ve talked about a similar situation myself with Captains I fly with in conversation. They 100% of the time say “you made the right choice” but in reality, who knows...

Old info definitely....thus asking the question.

Just remembering people getting “stuck” on the E190 a few years ago.

Rarely able be taken advantage of due to red/redder especially if you have a 4(or 5/6) day trip. Want to work more hours? Sure it might work for you. Trade a 4/5 day for a 2/3? Good luck. I had a 4 day in Nov that I tried to trade for a 4 day(with more hours) on the same days. The trade was denied by the computer. I called CS and was told it was denied because my trip arrived later in the day than the open time trip. A nice window into the mindset of CS.

Low min days off.(How many does SWA have?)

My day off earlier this month was moved from a Saturday to a Monday. Ended with me working 6 days in a row and missing a planned dinner on Friday night.(This actually ended up working out in my favor due to having more hours than everyone else)

Also able to work into your day off until 12 noon with no repercussions to the company.

Only duty limits are FARs.........

LOL at "pretty decent"

I would still pick AA over SWA but it is humorous what some pilots can consider "pretty decent"

Ive been able to consistently trade every month into trips that I want. But you gotta take the time to really understand TTOT and work the system. Most AA pilots I know do not.

Reserve... does SWA have long call all month long? We do. Days off, we have the same as Delta and United. Yes we need to tweak the days off and recovery days, etc... like I said we do have work to do but to call them “terrible work rules” is absurd.

I made pretty much what my SWA, Ual and Dal counterparts made this year, while averaging about 15 -16 days off per month and 85ish hrs/month... plus the 16% free 401k contribution... All while driving to work... Yeah, this place sucks...terrible work rules, LMAO.

You must be one of those guys with a constant rain cloud over their heads?
