Looks like they added the captains to the DEN list. DEN captain is under 6 years at United

This is a fair point.

FedEx just announced a seat bid today with 720-ish widebody captain vacancies.

I’m guessing you may see 3 year guys awarded the left seat of a WB. (When they go to training is another story though)

If government bail out money didn’t exist American would have collapsed under it’s debt load. The airlines with the best balance sheets would have weathered the storm (Southwest & Delta).

I have a buddy that left UA after over 20 years with them because of company culture. He’s not the only one. As far as SWA being a destination - it is for me and that’s the beauty of aviation - what works for some, doesn’t for others and vice versa. Only consistent with pilots is the constant grass is greener over there attitude, and complaining. “Give a pilot a bag of money and they’ll complain how heavy it is.” I’m not impugning anyone - this is as much self reflection as anything else.

On a side note - if you go back through these threads the cycle of disaster to on top of the world back to disaster is interesting if nothing else. Wait and see what the new contract turns out and the direction things go over the next few years - maybe we’ll get lucky and we won’t see a pay decrease when accounting for inflation…

If I remember correctly I’d say DAL UAL and AA will furlough with a drop of a dime if needed. Just look at their history. It’s all a gamble, that’s why we all want that crystal ball.

Most of the gripes here seem to stem from almost 2 years of stagnation and displacements due to an onslaught of random crises out of our control, to include the MAX crashes abroad and then finally COVID. I feel for those that got caught without decent seniority when all the music stopped and I would be equally disheartened. In the same breath, seniority is life. Personally I wouldn’t follow in someone like Zaps footsteps, forever chasing greener pastures just to potentially be disappointed 6 years later when the landscape changes yet again. (Nothing against you zap, just my opinion)

I know I’ll come across as a Kool aid drinker (which I’m not), but the 1221 pilot WARN letters among thousands of other SWA employees was nothing more than a political ploy by GK to help push for PSP2 money in time for congress to pass it in early Jan; hence the awful timing before Christmas. Doesn’t make it any less effed up , but it is what it is. As a non recipient and not as emotionally affected by it, that’s exactly how I saw it at the time, and it appears I was correct.

Currently, I’m more concerned by what feels more and more like this place has no one coherent at the wheel of what’s feeling like it’s being steered by tone deaf leaders on a rudderless ship. We’ll see what our new CEO brings to the table in the coming months.

Hopefully when we get some momentum with new hires, returned seniority progression and above all, a solidly improved new contract, things will improve.
