I would say there is the opposite problem and they are rolling over people every class.

We are still losing a handful of new hires per class to other airlines, so instead of having empty seats like in the past, they're now overbooking classes and asking people to go home and come back later after day 1. So instead of the company f-ing over themselves, they're now f-ing over the new hires instead. Pretty indicative move of what's to come for all the newbies.

This is untrue on almost every level. The reason for the rollovers is due to people NOT bailing out on classes. They typically "oversell" classes just like seats on an airplane in the thought that some wont show, however everyone is showing up now so they ask, typically the local students to rollover to a week or two. This is an excellent thing however with one exception. If this happens, you get benefits, seniority, flight benefits and pay all as if you started on your original day, except you get to go home and wait. Hell you even get to go too both welcome dinners if you want and it gives you extra time to study if you needed it.

The main drawback is that it pushes you a couple weeks later before you get off IOE and make better money on the line. I wouldn't say this is the company "f-ing over" the new hires and in fact, that do typically ask if someone is interested prior to rolling them over. I understand there is a lot that we want fixed in the contract but this issue really isnt one of them and as someone that was rolled over recently, I can tell you the company went above and beyond for both myself and my family throughout the entire process.

Yeah, seniority number and getting paid not to work. I’d be the first volunteer to get rolled.

I had a buddy who was asked if he could roll over into a later class, he would get his seniority number and pay to stay home 2 weeks. He was all for it - then they called like 3 days before the class and said he was going to be in it full tilt.

Your first interaction with SWA is them violating the contract. At least they’re setting the tone.

The contract is back-up toilet tissue in the stalls in Dallas. Plumbers indeed.

I listened to Casey on the podcast and I noticed that he, nor anyone else, has specifically pointed out what section of the contract rolling pilots down while being paid and having a seniority number violates. Crew scheduling probably has "KCM" in large font in their private notes about me, but I can't find any section of the contract that says they have to train you in a specified amount of time. I would very much welcome someone giving me the reference, otherwise we are no better that SWA management and their "interpreting" the contract.

I did hear in the same podcast that there is an issue with if these new hires are properly enrolled in LTD, STD, travel, and CASS. This does need to be addressed...

3.B

1. A pilot’s Seniority Date will begin to accrue from the date the pilot is first placed on the Company payroll in a pilot training status and actually begins pilot training with the intent of regular line flying, and will continue to accrue thereafter during all service as a pilot except as provided in this Section or other Sections of this Agreement.
