This is what happens when the media and politicians get involved. Every airliner I’ve ever flown has had AD’s or weaknesses related to a crash scenario. In 1380 it was a fan blade that flew off and punctured the fuselage. Hard to imagine how a piece of cowl could do the same.
Cant be that hard to at least put a scratch pad message to draw pilot’s attention. “EAI has been on for 5 minutes.” Similar to the above 10 degrees one. once this door plug issue is resolved and the noise dies down, I think we’ll see what happens. Could be worse. For once it isn’t SWA with 20% of its fleet grounded while waiting for a response. |

Fact remains that a plane like the 767 developed (by Boeing even) in the 70s has AUTO engine anti ice yet Boeing has a product developed in the 2000s that needs to be babysat like a rambunctious toddler.

Is auto anti ice an option on the Max? It would make sense that our fearless leaders opted out to save a buck.

I have never seen any sort of bad cowl ice, but I am sure a massive hunk of it going through the core wouldn't be good. This whole thing is a whatever from me. Already over 1,500 max airplanes flying around with the exact same issue. They shouldn't hold up certification for the same issue that hundreds of thousands of folks are already flying around with. |

Bureaucrats will be concerned with optics in light of BCA's latest goof. Granting more waivers and favors won't be a good look. Can't say that I blame them really.

At least in the CFMs, I have seen the results of ice shedding from the fan blades and spinner. It completely destroys the inner acoustic panels surrounding the fan.
