One of the most respected "amateur" racers I know campaigns 3 cars. He has a built/modified 30 yr old honda CRX, a Miata, and a quarter million dollar McLaren. He built his reputation in the CRX and Miata. Check out Andy Hollis. I'm not sure I'd ever challenge one thing he ever had to say about cars.
I very briefly worked for Andy on a project. Nice guy, very focused. He's got what everyone wants and he's actually satisfied with it, which is rare I think.

I challenge Andy all the time.

I run with/against the GRM crowd often.

Andy knows my chief complaint about his tire testing is he doesn't use any 'heavy' (3,000+lb) cars in his results. Those of us that run non-miata's often have very different experiences than his articles.

Now that's more like it.

Personally, my go-to on the road is Macallan 12 since most of our hotels don't carry the 18, or Dalmore 12 or older.

Yep but the hotels are so proud of that Macallan! A buddy recently gifted me an outstanding bottle, so now I have Balvenie 12, Oban 14 and a Lagavulin 16. Well…I had it. I’m out. Damn.

I think if you know what you're talking about, Andy probably loves a good challenge. You're right about the vehicle type for his reviews, not sure how to address that. His driving style and preferences seem (from an outsider perspective) to be fairly pure. That means he's really good at what he does, but as you say it may not extrapolate outside his area of focus. Throw the same tires on a mustang and a C8 Vette and you're right, the results may be wildly different. Perhaps he needs a testing buddy to mirror literally everything he does with his testing, but with a bigger/heavier car.
Not a lot of people would trade back a brand new Porsche GT2 for a Miata (or a 3rd McLaren), but there's Andy still towing the Miata around the national parks...

Not to get off topic, slated for Jan 19 class date. Choice between 12 or 19 Jan it seems for the Oct interviews.

Also…for the money, Miata is an engineering marvel. I want my kids to respect me though, so they’ll never hear me say that.

Default Miata

Is there a particular base more infected with this Miata infatuation? I would say a lotus/ corvette would be a much more worthy topic of cruise discussion but also want to fit in once online. These base decisions are hard!….

First the thread drift back to class dates. Then the backhanded insult to the MX-5. Man, I don’t know if you’re going to be a good fit at SWA.
