I won’t disagree that some OSW guys walk around with a kool aid mustache. Not as many these days. No matter the reality, we don’t need to be miserable at work either. There’s two ditches. The adopted kids are often in the miserable ditch. Can normally tell they were adopted in the first 2-3 minutes of a pairing. As with all things there are exceptions. I’ve flown with a few really incredible ones… a few.

If I had a paid move, I probably would have exercised it, but I am too senior to get displaced and DEN didn't get the voluntary option. It's a great base, especially if you like to play the game. Solid people and great chief pilots. SWA just soured on building it up with personnel. It's biting them in the ass right now anytime weather rolls through as they don't have as many crews in place there.

Such is life in the airline game, though. The only constant is change. As someone said above, if you told me 10 years ago that you could hold Orlando and BWI before OAK, I would have been like "sure, Jan."
lol. Nope. You have it completely backwards. Especially the first line. Where was that airlines HQ ? What relationship did the Orwellian operational HQ elements have with the ATL pilots and FA’s ? Consider that they were in some very uncivil contract negotiations for ~ six years. Which was a record (I believe).

I have talked to MS in person. Great guy, honest player, puts all the cards on the table. He is an AirTran fanboy and admittedly did not want to reduce ATL. I personally think the nostalgia factor and the mx base are the only thing keeping it open. It's a sad approximation of its former self. Delta has done what Delta does and squeezed WN until the pain was too much to bear. The first step to getting out of the ATL hole was to stop digging. BNA offered WN an opportunity and they took it. I don't blame them.

As for the Orwellian comms, yeah. Totally agree there. Crew planning talks a big game, but they give zero f's about wrecking QOL.

I love a good narrative. “I used to be in a barbershop quartet in Skokie Illinois”.

The "adopted" captains were the ones that, by far, were the ones that honored the "first year FO don't buy" tradition in my experience. I only flew with one FAT guy that just couldn't let it go plus had to be the religious Jl O in addition to the regional Jn O and be the one DB on my no fly list.

If the db rule is invoked all other rules are void and nullified.

So, word went around there might be three base openings and one would be a surprise, whatever that means. The guys that picked Austin were right and the rumor on that was getting pretty strong before the announcement. What’s next? I still think St. Louis. But the surprise? What does that even mean? HNL, TPA?

The only thing with STL is that terminal is absolutely awful. Horrible food too. Place is a dump. Would need a major facelift. Although I hear they are building a new terminal so maybe that takes care of that.

IF there is a third domicile announced this year, then my money is on HNL. We're in it for the long-term there, so it seems inevitable.

Second domicile is still a toss-up...
