At this rate it will literally take years to get people back as they’re not backfilling retirements and have made clear there is no intention of growing the base at all for the foreseeable future…apparently it’s cheaper to kick people out and have them overnight in their displaced base.
I didn’t realize that DEN CA went that deep in the list. Well, I am staying away for a while. I left of my own volition. That place has become toxic for anyone on the bottom third or so in their respective seat. I wish everyone displaced a speedy return.

Based off the Swapa Displaced pilot list, as of the June bid there's around 65 CA's (5 got back in for July) and 80 FO's (a bunch got in for July). I'd guess the DEN FO side will largely be absorbed by secondary vacancies by end of year or early next year if the hiring/upgrades continue. You're right in that the bottom 30-40% will have zero QOL....but they're still driving to work so small victories. Planning told me "IF the Max 7 comes soon, that will be the biggest driver in having vacancies back into DEN". They also said RE rsv would help, but that was delayed....again....for whatever BS reason they have. I'm hoping commuters continue to bail for places like AUS/LAS so local pilots can get back home....we'll see how it shakes out.

I do not understand why RE Reserve continues to be delayed. How hard is it? But one thing I’ve learned about this company is many things are hard that shouldn’t be. At least REs in OT often go to VDT and I hope they continue to so we can be rewarded handsomely. Get it while you can folks!

The RE's of late are much different than a year ago when they first started building them. I see a lot of 3-duty periods stretched over 4 days with 17 hours of block and paying 26.0 straight and premium or 30 in VDT. That's a terrible paying 4-day if you ask me, especially with the block times being built into them like they have been.

There was a 5 day trip with a red eye that went straight yesterday in BWI. Paid 40 trip rigged. Gross. Flipped from an early east coast AM to a PM then a red eye. Possibly the ugliest trip I have ever seen but had a PUJ overnight, so winning?

between the MAX groundings and the China virus, it won’t be long before we see 2021 hires upgrading. Probably some time early next year
also there is a lot of people bypassing to get to a west coast base ie den etc. I know there is always 800-1000 but it think it's ip to 1300 now and as a percentage thats seems normal. Yet it used to be all the trannys bypassing to get to an east coast base and those have all had that opportunity now. So these new bypasses are hired not acquired guys waiting for whatever reason.
Point is maybe more will participate in the next 6 months and that magical 5 yr upgrade everyone is gushing over will reamin at the historical 7 yrs.

Sounds like a win/win for the FO's. They either upgrade sooner or get better seniority/qol sooner. As much as I think this becomes a significantly easier (easier in terms of setting the mood and tempo) and better job in the left seat, I am OK with it taking 7 years; if it happens in 5, all the better. I just want hiring/retirements to keep going, as long as that happens every month, it is a net positive to Qol/seniority/upgrade, etc.

Flown with a lot of DEN FO's who could've held it already and are bypassing for however long it takes to hold DEN. I know a bunch that said they'll take 1st avail and commute for years....not sure what the % is overall....I think once the west coast upgrades start later this year the number bypassing will come down...especially after VA bidding is over.

We are in peak retirement territory unless congressional reps with brothers on a seniority list get their friends and family two more years on top of the dog pile. 4000ish retirements by the end of 2035 then it begins to taper off. New hires for attrition will move that along plus any growth; as always, any macroeconomic swings take all bets off.

We are due for another once in a lifetime black swan event over the next few years, based on my elder millenial math.

Covid ended 5 years ago…and the Max 7 still isn’t here…I think we can put off the black swan stuff for awhile….please. 🙏🏻
