Southwest hiring info
The invites will continue. Classes are starting in September and going until they are done. I got an initial invite in the March/April hiring round last year and chose the last day possible based on my availability. I made the second class (they go in order of interview, also how employee numbers are assigned).
I am not good at math, but that means out of three weeks of interviews, they had enough hires to staff two classes of 24. I don't know what that boils down to in percentages, but I do know that 5/6 in my interview group were hired. I was probably the least experienced and close to the least qualified.
They told us pre interview that they weren't looking to fill any quotas. They could hire all of us or none of us. I truly believe that once you make it to the interview it is yours to lose. Interview prep, while not a must have, will help immensely. I am sure some guys can go in there and kill it without prepping. I am not one of those guys and not afraid to admit it.

Good post as always from you e6b. I'm interested to see what the first round of interviewees hear during their interview as far as the first availability of class dates are concerned. I'm hearing rumblings that it may in fact be sooner than September.

Congratulations and welcome aboard!
I must comment on this however;
I have no idea what your situation was and this is only directed at future hires and not at you -
TAKE THE FIRST CLASS AVAILABLE.
I see way too many guys take what is "convenient" as opposed to what is available. Seniority is everything moving forward for the rest of your career. Days off, vacation, being home with your kids. Everything.
Beg, borrow - do whatever you have to do (within reason) to secure that seniority number. Careers have been made by the cut of one number. Take it.

I'm 42 years old. This is my 8th airline. I think the time for jumping to another airline has come to a close. Better to just hope things improve at this one.

Oh I agree wholeheartedly. I had a military commitment that interfered. It was the first one I could make.

I think this is good advice for some folks.
My advice: take a strong look at where you are and what your satisfaction is and make a smart decision for you and your family based on the info available. I have been round and round with my wife on making the jump to another airline. I am staying put at SWA. It just works for us.

Agreed. If I were ten years younger and/or lived someplace more easily commutable it would be a no brainer.
There are worse things than retiring as an FO at a successful major airline.

42 may be old for Southwest but it is young for the legacies...almost the entire seniority list of the big three will retire in the next 20 years...and a wide body FO at a legacy can make what a Southwest captain makes (maybe more after C2015 at Delta)...
