Quote: I know for a fact that with the right language, vacation can be just as good. It sounds like you came from a regional that had garbage work rules and don't think it could possibly made better.
^^^ This right here. Ask any ASA pilot. They had what was called vacation low. Basically they had to get their line value up to 65 hrs. I believe how they did that was, even though they only got paid 4.5 for vacation days they had the system award vacation days at 5 hrs a day. So with 7 days they had 35hrs credit already. So basically they only had to build their line for 30 hrs. So that could be two 4 days, or how ever they could do it. The company hated it. Alot of the senior guys would bid transition vacation, and get alot of days off ( former ASA guys know more about this). I am not a PBS advocate, but with the right work rules it is not as bad as some make it out to be. Another thing you don't want in PBS is a Globalized system. I would bet transition pay is done with our line bidding, but what we need to keep if we keep line bidding is the fact they have to drop from the outside in. If we give them the option to drop from anywhere you will see them drop middle days. Also need to keep Green/Red day with either system, also keep the 4 days off in between trips. If I was the union and they are pushing PBS so hard I would one: want to know what system they are looking at. Two: I would go after something similar to what SWA ( I know they are not PBS) on a percentage of their paring have to be built to 3 days or less. We need a calendar trip rig around 6hrs a day. Guaranteed 15 days off for all pilots, including RSV. Let RSV be able to pick up on their days off. This is just my opinion. They want PBS we make them improve the QOL.

Quote: There are ways to run PBS, which are less seniority heavy.
Unless you are top 20% seniority you will NOT get what you want, but what is left over.
PBS will NOT give you more schedule flexibility than you already enjoy.
You can currently drop and add to fit your needs.
VAC will be worthless with PBS.
For the 40% to 60% seniority folks, it will be like a relief line.
You may get some of your requests, some of the time.
Double checking for "errors", will take just as much time as bidding for lines.
I don't necessarily think this is true. But let's just say you're correct. There is no reason 4 days off has to be "the norm". Granted I'm not going to vote to give this up, I'm suggesting we have a bidding system that allows us to waive it if we don't need it on a particular month.
The current system gives scheduling 100% control over the lines I am offered. They just happen to be less than ideal 100% of the time for me.
Perhaps next contract we can address a bidding system that allows the contract to set the parameters (min/max credit, % or reserves, rigs, duty) and then allow pilots to set pairing preferences. Then let seniority dictate which pairs I receive.
Simply remove the ability for the software to block off my vacation or training so if I choose to bid a pairing that conflicts I can do so.
I just simply hate the 70-90 lines they give me to choose from. There is ZERO reason on both sides of the negotiation why we can't allow pilots to have more choice over the pairings except to say "it's always been this way".
Don't call it PBS. I don't care. There has to be software that allows us to sort through and select our own pairings based 100% on seniority keeping all conflicts and rules the same.

If you get PBS, the company will not honor the contractual language. It will years of violating the language before a federal moderator will finally give a cease and desist with no penalty. Look to the transition language of the current contract for historical precedent.

PBS has not even been discussed since Jyri brought it up in initial talks. Given that the 4 days off is not even on the table, pbs most likely not an option. Line bidding with an adjustment to transition is more likely. I think we need to be more concerned about the guys that are prolonging this process by bailing the company out on the standing available list. For myself, I will not help them out for JA.

Not to mention the red/green language. That took about the first 3 years of the current contract to get the company to honor that.

Quote: Not saying you're wrong but how come no one leaves pbs at united or delta to come here for the awesome line bidding?
...Our CBA is inferior to theirs. ^^
We could not match their pay in larger ac, bases, network, equipment, travel benefits, etc. PBS was a concession, for which they were rewarded.
Do we have an offer that remotely matches the above airlines CBAs?
Why would we give them PBS then?

You know that for a fact?
Just like you know that I came from a garbage regional.
No, I did not come from a regional.
Although I do not know it for a fact... I do not have faith in management, to trust them with a powerful tool like PBS, which allows for too many loopholes.
We will have a busy grievance committee!

Thank you.
My point exactly.

Just had a captain change the out time again to reflect 'on time'.

When discussing contract negotiations his answer was -it's a long process that we have no control over. Negotiations won't actually matter until we are released.

No green lanyard and yes, he was called off the standing available list for MUP.

And yes, he thinks AA pays only 10-20% more.

When is the union going to make an effort to reach the guys who refuse to listen to the calls? I tried but there is no getting through to some of these guys. A little more help would be nice.
The pickets, billboards, ads, aren't just for the public. We have a lot of guys with blinders on here.

In my experience some are just unreachable. Better to let the 5% believe what they want and move on. A person convinced against their will is of the same opinion still.

Well, if this guy thinks he's doing the company a favor, he will be in for a real surprise someday. When JS starts his witch-hunt, guys pulling this stunt are low hanging fruit. He'll be accessed of stealing from the company and that will be hard to defend.
