4 sims and then released to OE? No LOF, or line sim? Your poor Line Check Airman. That's stressful, especially given some of the airports you fly into.

You do get a LOFT, but it's pretty basic and just one event before pounding em' on with passengers aboard.

Poor line CKA's? How about poor line Capt's that have to do ojt all the time but don't get the instructor override.
Agreed. That's not a lot of real world training for new guys/gals. Type ratings don't equate to safe -121 ops. Good luck when flying with new hires--they'll need your mentorship! Best to y'all during contract negotiations. Fly safe, keep the blue side up, and try not to let tough negotiations talk enter the cockpit, thereby distracting you during important phases of flight. The Company locks you out of CASS so you're NOT going home unless you live local!! You are not an employee till you pass OE!!!
Although going home is discouraged during training, this above statement is not true anymore, maybe in the past. I'm in 3rd week of training in CASS already. It has to do when they finish their background check. Some of us received an email that our backgrounds were complete and others have not. |

If any training days are lost for any reason, power outage, illness, hurricane, then the lost training days are taken from any weekend days off so you'll do 6 or more continuous days of training, and may end up with a checkride or oral exam at the end of a 6 day work week with very early morning or very late night schedule.
If you request relief, the training department will say "all students whine, so stop whining", and if you press them, they'll say "when your instructor says you need to re-do any portion of training or are on the verge of failing, then we *might* consider taking away another of your days off so you can get another training event." And then you get a sim with the hatchet and decide at least for a while that you might be better off at Mesa after all, a temporary sort of insanity but real nonetheless. |

Never heard of an initial type program with 4 Sims. Wonder how they got the Feds to sign on.

Pretty much the same as it was at my previous carrier. Best thing one can do is dig into the study packet once it arrives at your door.

You can't travel as an employee on Spirit, no insurance or benefits for 90 days. They don't enter you into CASS, they don't consider you an employee. You're in training and NOT actually an employee.
They may have changed it because they can't fill classes!!! |
