Strike Vote
#152
Sour....... in spite of your lack of basic understanding of your union and how it works there are 100s of great men and women trying to get you a contract. If ALPA isn't the BEST option you have to achieve this goal - please enlighten us on how SPA pilots can get across the finish line with an Industry Standard or better contract.
The more unified your pilot group is the faster and more successful the process goes (although painfully slow by design).
And YES I am an ALPA man.......so are you unless you are another MGT troll.

So honest question:
You're out on strike and the NC says we have a TA and MEC says let's go back to work. We go back to work and see that said TA is not ratifiable. We vote down said TA and now what? We aren't on strike anymore. Where's the leverage? There is some consensus that contract 2010 which pass with 74% in favor may not have passed had the group not returned without voting. It's highly likely that at least 24% voted in favor of the TA because they didn't know what would happen if they voted no.
If you're on strike it's fair to say that 100% of the group is paying attention. You don't need to go through the normal month long voting and road show process. You could easily release a TA and tally a vote within 24 hrs. Yes vote and you go back to build a great airline, no vote and we stay out until the come with industry standard.
I will admit I don't know what the ALPA policy is on this topic and I support our NC 100% at this time but I have a very hard time coming back from a strike just because they tell me it's a good deal. We should be the ones to decide

The roadshow is to help explain the legalese and work rule changes... stuff that is more complex than pay rates. I also believe our bylaws require a certain time window for voting.
If a TA is voted down we would change or modify the negotiation team and go back to the table. I can't imagine the negotiations team would present a TA to the MEC that wouldn't pass.

I love that quote "I came here for the work rules". So are you saying you are willing to be paid substantially less for those work rules? I will guarantee you that this next contract if it has hourly pay rates that mimic Delta, United, etc it will be at the cost of work rules. So make your choice get out or give up work rules.

That's not what happened. "You'll be in no mans land" is what I've heard quoted.

This is why it is important that the people negotiating your next contract have a pulse on what the membership wants. The Spirit pilots keep talking about "industry standard". If that's what you're expecting then you're in for a big surprise. If it's just the compensation then you might come close, but you're not going to have a DL, UA type of contract; that's unrealistic. Southwest didn't match the big three so why on earth do you think Spirit will?
Your MEC and NC should know when they have the best deal and they shouldn't put it out for a vote unless they think it will pass. Anything else will just lead to another year of waiting and frustration before the NMB even comes remotely close to releasing you.

Comparing pay scales and average line holder min guarantees Southwest pilots actually get paid MORE than compared to UA and DL. Again this is only taking into account min guarantee. So how exactly did Southwest not match the big three? On top of all this they still have line bidding as well.
As far as pay, you are incorrect as far as it matching DL or UA.

My main point on the original post is that there are many saying industry standard or nothing. So if industry standard is UA or DL then that's a tall order and I seriously doubt your MEC and NC are going to hold out for that type of TA. Just not realistic. Think what Allegiant received. Good pay but lousy work rules. I understand that your work rules are pretty good so I would expect and hold out for a moderate pay increase and other compensation benefits. Just an educated guess.
