FLL ramp controller finally had enough and took charge last night. She said no spirit aircraft allowed to push until a ramp crew parked a plane that was sitting on the ground for two hours waiting for a gate. Good for her for digging her heels in. Why are we seeing a non-spirit employee having to step up for our operational mess? It's just downright embarrassing.

Well you kinda need to push planes and get a gate available before you can park more planes??

not sure her logic on that one.

Someone tell me why we won’t pay FLL rampers an extra $5 an hour to prevent another $100M operational meltdown

I honestly wonder what the number is that will get applicants. Because is it $5/hr that’s the issue or the lack of workforce that wants to be a ramper in FLL, for any reasonable amount of pay. Because I know SWA was having the same issues in FLL.

I know the gate agents are unionized in FLL, right? I wonder if they have approached the company about a pay increase against their current CBA.

hey, maybe Spirit can invest in some of Elon Musk’s AI humanoid robots to clean our planes.

(I would post a link, but guess it’s cool now not to post links and just make other people search for the article because other people are lazy if for that ask, and not you)

Well, there is logic. gate was open for the inbound but no ramp crew to park, and they were passing the 2 hour mark of waiting. The idea was to move a push crew over one gate to park them.

Definitely don’t think it was the best choice, but the controllers are getting fed up and made a decision to put pressure on our ops to get planes moved.

It doesn’t matter if there is a gate open

we were told the gate was open so we taxied to our gate. it still took 1 hour after we were told the gate was open to get blocked in. 45 minutes of that was waiting for rampers 250ft short of the gate.

Edit: i guess the good news is that we don’t have automated docking that blocks you in automatically as soon as it says “STOP” and you still have to wait for the jet bridge.
