I have used headsets in the sim. It has been up to the instructor. I use my own in the aircraft but for sim I used the provided ones.

So they do provide them for the sim?

Im using a nflightmic/qc25 combo right now and am just wondering if I’ll need a TSO compliant set for the sim/plane.

Seems like headsets are pretty much off at FL180 here. That being said, is a TSO headset required? Will it be required during sims?
Our FOM requires any headset to be TSO'd. That said, off all the issues NK addresses this is absolutely not one of them. The UFlyMike/Avee is see online as well as several flavors of Bose. Headsets 10 years ago were rare but they're pretty common today. The bus is not a quiet airplane and the 'topless!' nonsense at FL180 is just that.

Our sims, for the most part, use the single Airbus style plug while our aircraft use the two plug GA style. If you're using a Bose A20 you'll need to contact Bose and get the adapter. One of their male plugs is a shade different than our female receptacle. Tell them you're with NK using their A20 and they'll know what to send you.

Headsets in the sim are hit and miss. With AQP it seems they're wanting to use them more and more.

Apple Watch shows decibels. Cost index 99 will cause long term hearing loss in the climb. Topless at 18 is annoyingly loud.

I agree and find it funny how quick people are to remove the headset only to then crank up the speaker volumes to blaring levels, all while yelling at each other across the flight deck. 😂😂

Which is why I’ll never climb out on CI99 speeds
Airbus 320 at 280kts in climb, nice
Airbus 320 at 330kts in climb, bad.

I’ll never take my ANR headset off if someone is doing a CI99 climb until we get to cruise.

And if I’m flying with someone who has their speaker turned up way too loud, to the point I don’t even need a speaker to hear the radios, I’ll turn my speaker up loud, let them realize it’s too loud, they adjust theirs down, and then I bring mine down.

I’ve already noticed after flying 8 years on the 320 I can no longer hear the radio even when the loudspeaker is cranked up to max. So now I keep the speaker turned off in flight, and left ear piece in the whole time so that I can hear ATC. I give FOs a choice on whether to wear their headset above 180 or not. I don’t care if the FO wants to wear the headset or not. But FOs that bring their own headset tend to keep them on and the ones that don’t take them off. If they take theirs off, I take my right ear piece off and sometimes I hear them if they yell loud enough…

The 319s are the worst and the loudest plane.
NEOs with the inop propsync give me headaches, but noise canceling make all the engine, prop noises and airflow noises go away on the 320s and 321. The 319s you still hear the engines with active noise cancelling.

The Airbus definitely isn’t as quiet as some people make it out to be. Ship headsets suck, and topless sucks. I never take my ANR headsets off, and will just pull them off one ear. I love when guys give approach briefings with no headsets, while they have their head turned opposite of me, while they stare at their iPads. “Questions?” No dude, I didn’t hear a word you said. Can you repeat that while looking at me so I can hear you?
