Say one is a junior Spirit pilot (3 or less years on property), mid-30s, lives in base for both NK and UA — what are the pros and cons for leaving for United? The money favors United, but I’m more interested in QOL. Yes, Spirit has great work rules — but United’s aren’t bad. More importantly, the seniority movement at United seems more promising over a 30 year career with the large amount of United retirements. What should I be considering or what would you do if you are in my shoes?

Being in your mid 30's and actually live in a UA base it's a no brainer to me! Sounds like you live in ORD. You will get ORD right out of training. UA has 1k vacancies and a ton of unfilled WB slots... upgrade 1 year or just hangout in the right seat and maybe upgrade at 40, or go fly the 777. A ton of options you can have. UA will also most likely get a new contract again soon which will be even better. Don't hesitate, its a no brainer. If you were in your mid to late 40's or 50's then its something to def think about.

Again, given your age - both airlines are giving 15-16% free money. You will absolutely be retiring with 2-3 million dollars regardless of where you go.
maybe you are still stuck on RSV. United’s QOL isn’t awful, but all I can say is I have not missed anything that’s important in my life since I hit line holder status. So 2.3 years I’ve been able to do whatever was necessary to build my schedule exactly how I needed it to hold off important dates.
Also in the last 30 days I will have worked 1 trip (which ironically was paid at 200%). I did not manipulate my schedule at all. I was legitimately awarded 2 weeks off over Xmas. How many decades at a legacy until that comes to fruition?
People get way to hung up on the name/livery painted on the tail. Every airline is the despise and cess pool flavor of the month. My good friends flying to meet me for vacation have just been shafted hard by AA.

with 25-30 years left to go you’re asking this question why again? Go, run and don’t look back. Especially now.

I answered your question on the other thread, in the Majors section, you started.

And just so everyone is clear, are you only getting paid 40(?) hours this month? Or was there more to this windfall allowing you to collect at least min guarantee?

You might want to read my post again. I knew I would get Xmas off regardless just based on my bidding %. I waived to 1 day because I didn’t really care either way and bid Min Credit Window. Trust me when I say I was as shocked as anyone to get 14-27.
All in all life is terrific here. I greatly care about QOL and more money, honestly, isn’t going to drastically change my life. To each their own.
To be clear. I was PBS awarded off Dec 14-27. Im in Punta Cana right now and bid off the first 10 days off of Jan. I didn’t swap or drop anything. I was awarded off 14-27 and I was easily awarded off the first half of Jan. So in an actual 30 day period, literally, went to work one time, last week and it ended up (dumb luck as it may be) paid 200%.
As I said. Life is extremely good here. Each their own.
