Quote: Hi there. I know you love it here, and so do I. Having said that.
I got unstacked both for xmas and new years, I bid 35% in base (been here over 7 years). Our pay is stil way behind. I work 15 days a month to make as much as a 8 year SWA FO makes in 12 days (and I am a captain). If you get hired today in the next 20 years 30% of the people ahead of you will retire, and because we don't have NB/WB all of them are ahead of you. If you go to TOXIC AA, 75% will retire before you, and those 25% will be on the WB, so you can be the number 1 NB-CA instead of bidding 30% 20 years in.
I couldn’t tell you why you got “unstacked” You said your a CA. I’m an FO. I don’t know what base your in or what happened with your bid/award. That is unfortunate, but again I couldn’t tell you why that happened to you.

All I know is I am beyond happy here. I flew an Airbus for an airline that treated people like Mesa prior 🤷🏻‍♂️. I pretty much always do what I need to do in my personal life and am able to manipulate my schedule as I see fit to accommodate what I want/need to do. Does QOL suck at United (where I have quite a few friends)? No. Am I able to do things they wish they could? Yes.

I almost never do PHL/BWI-LAX/LAS. I’m pretty much over and done being in an airplane after 3.5-4 hours. I would never bid widebody even if I could hold it at a legacy. If we ever got 330/350s here. Have at it.

So… I could care less about WB flying. With 15% free money in a DC, QOL to do whatever I want most every month, I really don’t see any reason leaving. I’m going to retire with 2-3+ M at either shop.

People can do whatever it is they feel/want to do. I am very happy here. A vast majority of people I fly with are.

Damn that sucks. Im 60%ish in base as Captain and had thanksgiving and Christmas off. I did have to work New Year’s Eve though.

Quote: Say one is a junior Spirit pilot (3 or less years on property), mid-30s, lives in base for both NK and UA — what are the pros and cons for leaving for United? The money favors United, but I’m more interested in QOL. Yes, Spirit has great work rules — but United’s aren’t bad. More importantly, the seniority movement at United seems more promising over a 30 year career with the large amount of United retirements. What should I be considering or what would you do if you are in my shoes?
I left NK for UAL. I was a 2 year FO at NK. Was in my late 20s when hired. NK was a great place to be overall. I really don't have bad things to say about it. I will miss some of the things they had that we don't at UAL. That being said, it's not nearly as bad as people at NK make it out to be in terms of QOL items. I live in an NK base actually, but plan on moving to a UA base. Despite wanting to live where I want, the seniority progression at UAL was better than it would have been at NK. If I upgraded I was going to remain a junior CA for a very long time. I wouldn't have broken the top 1000 pilots until my mid 50s after being hired in my mid 20s at NK. All of that is predicated on growth too. If anything at all were to happen to NK it would only prolong my relative seniority growth. I obviously was in a better spot for the next few years had I stayed at NK but the last 55sh% of my career at UAL will be far better at UAL. 1000 / 7000 or maybe 8000 pilots vs sub 1000/14000 is a massive difference.

Quote: lol, yes….they are taking 2,500 RJ F/Os with 0TPIC
ive only been here 26 years, so I guess my sample size is too small, lol. But I fly with former rj caps, or retired mil 99% of the time. We’re getting the cream of the crop, as far as I can tell. Yea, the occasional 2500 f/o from the aviate program may get in a class every now and then, but it’s not the norm. And those that do, are sharp as hell.

When I upgraded at a regional many many years ago, I was flying with new hires with 3-4000 hours and gobs of multi time. When I left I was flying with 250 hour wet commercial tickets with just enough time in a Seminole to get a multi rating. It’s cyclical yes, but just because you got pick of the litter in years past doesn’t mean you always will.

At 26 years of seniority, you don’t think that has to do with the seniority of the FO’s you’re flying with?? Just an observation. Are your FOs junior reserve or relatively senior in their bid status?

Thanks for weighing in. I'm considering applying after May, when my baby comes. 0 TPIC, so even though it's possible, I'm not expecting much. United would be cool because they go to my hometown, but I also love it at Spirit so either way is a win.

you tied into aviate? If so, the lack of pic can be worked around.
