In this climate, Spirit seems to be a placeholder for new hires until something better comes along. Management needs to think about retaining NHs in the classes and the ones on property. NHs dipping to another company that would be considered a lateral move while in indoc seems to be a Spirit specific problem (though I could be wrong on this one).

If this is your outlook on how the company is doing during the current climate, please don’t be part of negotiations in the distant future.
Yeah my estimate was rough I know there was one week there were no no classes. My class had 29 show day one and 2 people quit so far. I know the class ahead and the one ahead of them also had roughly 25 people in each class by the time they finished. One week behind had 20. It’s definitely week by week but on average it’s somewhere around 100 people per month maybe down to 75 every so often. For a major to hire that many people is a month is pretty insane still. They are doing it for obvious reason (plus we will see what happens come Jan when the legacies hire again) according to the last set of numbers we were on track to hire more than 1000 pilot by year end. To me that still sounds like a lot and it says to me people are still coming in the door. Even if they leave during training they still showed up despite the training pay and if they went through the process of doing everything they need to prior to day one and just didn’t show up, they still planned to come despite training pay. It’s other factors that have lead people to quit during training or not show up. If you get a call from a legacy who can blame you. As of now we don’t compete with legacies despite the fact some people think we do or should. If you really want to make this a destination airline and stop people from leaving there are many other factors affecting people decision to leave or not show up besides training pay. Now if the applications stop that’s a different story.

United has hired close to 2500 pilots if not more this year alone.

Why does anyone think the legacies aren't hiring every week? United has literally hired 1000 pilots in the past 16 weeks.

Every single week this year with the exception of holiday weeks has had a new hire class anywhere from 40 to 72 pilots. Every single week.

Not having displacements and downgrades would be a good start

Yes, they'll continue to hire right up until they furlough.

I do agree that not having displacements would be a good start.

but let’s not be flagrant, the downgrades were completely voluntary nobody was forcing them…

I don't think it is widely known, but there were multiple involuntary downgrades as a result of the displacements. Mostly DTW and a few ORD CAs.

I love this defense mechanism. Like how Spirit pilots used to say “yeah, but we are recession proof” and “yeah, but we will see who survives with $150 oil”. Shocker, they did quite better than we did and are profitable, as we are not.

So if anyone is “hire to they furlough,” it’s Spirit, not a legacy.

Was thinking the same, what a stupid thing to say.

That doesn't even make sense. I believe that FLL is still the most junior CA base, so any involuntary downgrades would hit there first.
