You're a 727FE based in Berlin since 1981 and were hoping you'd have the seniority to bid home but it hasn't happened. You bail and go to this crazy new airline in Texas where nobody sits sideways
All the FO's you're flying with are living the sweet life and saying it will all sort itself out. I mean we've been crossing the ocean since flying boats! They stick around for several more years
The captains ... can you imagine leaving someplace with 25 years seniority and you work 11 days a month! They wait for the pink slips

Fast forward 10 years - the Southwest Captain meets his new FO who was his old FO too.

OK, got it. Pan Am =Spirit if Spirit<SouthWest. Solve for Truck Masters.

Or quite often his old CA.

That's seniority inversion. The FO who has little seniority to lose goes to their next major first while the CA - who waited until the writing on the wall was strobing brightly - joins him/her a thousand seniority numbers behind months or years later.

Just out of curiosity, if there are CA downgrades as they "right size the labor force" how would that play out? Just the bottom Captains on the seniority list or do they ask for volunteers?

I've heard no rumors about this, just asking to try and be a bit more knowleagable about how airlines do things.

all seniority based done via a Bid. Some CAs may choose to downgrade to stay in base vs commute as a CA

We’ve got this handy thing you pay dues for called a CBA. It’s funny bc the regional I came from moons ago had a more contractually literate pilot group than spirit. Our CBA is like a readers digest. You can read it front to back w all the LOAs and MOUs in a few hours.

The worse a pilot group is treated the better they tend to learn their CBA.

or goes to A310 and slides right in at DAL seniority

remember that ?

I think spirit will eventually be bought by someone for their pilots and aircraft

BTW that happened when delta bought the Pan ams 310 just like prior when United bought the pacific runs and their 747SPs

I think that if the DOJ wouldn't allow NK to combine with B6 the likelihood of them allowing NK to combine with any of the Big Four is nonexistent. Buy the aircraft in bankruptcy? Sure. Hire the pilots as newbie FOs at zero seniority? Not something that DOJ will care to do anything about. Actually COMBINE the two companies? Nope!

Mccatskil merging ruling after the TWA AMR merge

wouldn't that be something. seeing that the big four have the most powerful lobbiest out there, wouldn't be surprised if they got their way on this too.
